Hi all I have amongst other things generalised anxiety disorder and psychosis and have tried quite a number of meds all with horrific side effects.
My question is has anybody else had this DX and what meds were you prescribed, did they help you or make you feel terrible?
Any advice would be great please
Take care

I have been finding that Propranolol helps a great deal for anxiety and PTSD. I have both along with dissociation. Since I started that medicine I stopped the klonipin. I haven't had any success w/ any other medicines, too many side effects. I just read an article by the Mayo clinic about Propranolol, but I can' remember if it was for PTSD or anxiety. I was glad my P-doc was so up on the current meds for PSTD and Anxiety. You would have to check with your doctor.

Hi thanks for the reply I was on those meds years ago when my anxiety first began and then restarted them for severe headaches,I pleased they work for you and you find them helpful.

Well, for psychosis you would need to be on an antipsychotic. I have been on risperdal, geodon, and abilify (atypical antipsychotics) and I found all of them to be helpful for my anxiety, actually.

If you need something stronger for anxiety, you can try:
-a benzo as needed
-buspar
-gabapentin or pregabalin

This would be in addition to your anti-psychotic.

Hi thanks for your advice,I tried gabapentin and pregablin years ago for the ME but unsuccessfully for that or my mental health.
I've also had risperadol and seroquel (couldn't handle side effects)which I really hoped would help.
I think your right about maybe needing an additional med to go with the anti psychotic.
I will discuss this with my pdoc thank you very much for your help
Take care

I have a very similar issue to you, JK, and I think that I agree that an anti-psychotic such as abilify helped with the racing thoughts you might have with the psychosis. Was your pyschosis caused by anything in particular? Mine was induced by marijuana smoking.

Hi many thanks for all the advice and responses.
My psychosis was brought on my high anxiety and depression that I've had many years however it reared its ugly head only recently.
I always had voices but I tried to ignore this and carry on,I didn't want to admit them to myself or anybody for that matter.
It drives me crazy and the headaches are ridiculous
Take care

I really think I need to get onto some medicine for my GAD as well. I'm worried about the side effects due to medication I took in college that made me so dizzy I couldn't get out of bed.

I take alprazolam to help with my anxiety. However an evidential overview of my character points towards an addictive personality and for this reason I have come to fear the strongly enslaving qualities which freckle this drug's critique. However even though I must limit my intake by taking a "Do not take it unless you have to" approach, I purpose no questions to the validity of it's effectivnedss on my personal issues. I just wish to avoid becoming a dope fiend. I do think I that I would rather have clonazepam to help with my issues though.
