Lately I have been trying to slowly explain to my fiance my mental health issues. I have been having pretty intense panic attacks the last couple days......
Well over the weekend he lost his wallet. We were out and about and he realized his wallet was gone and had all his charge cards in it along with some cash. I remained calm. I told him it was probably still at home. We searched everywhere and it was not there. Earlier we took the kids too soccer so he went over too the field and called me and said it was not there. I still remained calm and told him we would find it. He was in a frenzy by now, which is totally understandable. I told him to go too his office since he stopped over there and it is probably there. He insisted it couldn't be. I told him to go check anyway and I would continue looking around the house. Well he came home and said it was there at the office.
This is the twist of fate.......He told me "I thought I was going to die, geez I couldn't even breathe. I never felt so horrible" He rambled on and on. I told him "honey guess what? Thats how it feels during a panic attack except sometimes you have no reason for feeling like that" He was floored! He told me "Geez that is a really bad feeling. I had no idea. They must be scary"
I just had too share this because it really opened up his eyes too what it feels like when I need too take a Xanax. I don't think he could really grasp how horrible it really feels. I also explained too him about how I was so calm and supportive with him during his situation is really what I need then I feel like that. Now he says he understands.

If I may be tongue in cheek - I almost wish my husband would experience something like this in order to gain his understanding. Unfortunately, I don't think he has ever experienced panic and after many years - I have learnt that nothing phases him.

I am happy and proud for you - Thanks for sharing this.
