Try to remember the things to be thankful for - don't let your "mind" tell you who you are - the real person is usually in the heart and in the things you do for others. I heard someone once say that in social situations try not to think about yourself and let the focus be on the other person -- let your focus go "outward" instead of "inward" - I thought that was good advice because I am literally so "self" focused sometimes that my mind does take over - turn your mind outward to those around you - it might feel different. Don't give your mind the time to think these things - you can do it!!!

I hope your new job has some aspects of nurturing others in it. After reading your posts it sounds as if you are happiest when you are in that role (mother, for example). If the job doesn't involve nurturing, perhaps you could build some of that into it - for example, excellent customer service if you work with the public. Caring for others (in a healthy way) is one way of getting out of ourselves (what you call clearing your mind) and getting into life. I imagine you have a lot to offer in whatever you choose to do.

I hope you go see that son who lives in another state soon. If that is not possible, call or send him a card with a nice letter in it. It sounds like you are missing him. He needs your good mommy love even as an adult.

clear your mind. check out "the power of now" by eckhart tolle.
He advises simply going inside the body for about 15 mins and just breathing. This is what silences our past and future thought forms that do not exist causing us distress and anxiety. He writes some good books.

I also recommend Eckhart Tolle - I have The Power of Now on CD which he reads. Very powerful to listen to - he work has helped me make some major changes. One of his lighter thoughts is 'Life isn't nearly as serious as we make it out to be'. Amen.

If walking does not help, trying biking and/or swimming, for at least 30 minutes non-stop. Or, if you can (knee health permitting, etc.), try running.

Walking may not be intense enough to shut down the voice in your head.
