The new owners of the bldg are making "improvements"...when I got home from work, my front door was wide open, the key dangling from the lock, and the door was unlocked. My cat was at the front door crying his eyes out. Whomever came into my home - unannounced - while I was at work, moved his litter box and completely covered it with trash. Leaving it by the front door. He couldnt use his box all day. Poor guy.
I was stunned. These undocumented workers have been irresponsible and creating havoc and unsafe conditions for those living here since they started. I had no idea until tonight when I went to my neighbors for help. I was afraid and didnt understand what was happening and why my door was open like that. Apparently, their reckless, irresponsible behavior has affected others who have reported the matters to the management company to no avail. These strange men were in my home today, and not only did they leave a mess, they left my home wide open. They removed decorative security bars in the outside of the windows, as well, and did not replace them leaving me vulnerable to intruders. My little home, my valuables, along with my furry family member who is the most valuable priceless loveball were subjected to possible further violations due to the negligence of the owners, workers and management company. I called the mgmt co rep right away and took photos of everything. She could not have cared less. She cut me off mid- sentence and told me to just send her an email with the details. I am angry and frightened. I feel as though my home was invaded and somehow has been tainted by these dirty bast**** that were in my home. My neighbors were very supportive and stayed with me to make sure I was safe. I dont know what went on in here today, too, because the cat is very agitated. I keep telling myself what my T1 taught me, "I am safe and at peace" and "I can handle anything that comes my way" but I still feel afraid and panicky. This is/was my "safe place". I invite very few people into my home. In addition, on a more superficial level, I am very upset that I was not notified anyone would be coming into my home so I didn't have a chance to tidy up this morning before leaving for work. And that also makes me feel violated. And a little embarrassed. I will lock up the best I can before settling in for the night. And try to sleep. I am feeling frightened, violated and fearful (irrational, I know). And I feel as though I never want these men to come into my home again. I am angry too that they invaded my space and were so irresponsible. I want to file a police report and call ICE to come for a visit tomorrow, as well, to haul them away. I may feel differently in the morning but right now I feel so alone and just want to protect myself from further harm. |

I'm so, sooo sorry you've gone through this dreadful experience. Your feeling "frightened, violated and fearful" as a result is in no way irrational.
Please check your contract with the company. If your rights--as detailed in that contract--have been ignored, California is quite fierce about going to bat on your behalf. Please report them. Your feelings are valid. Acknowledge that--I hope treating them with respect will help you find the calmness you need to find rest and deal with these home-wreckers. ![]() Roadie ![]()

I would be furious if this happened to me. Listen, you have absolutely every right to feel the way you are feeling about this; it is not irrational in the least. This is not a situation that should ever happen to anyone, IMHO.
Definitely review your lease and see what you can do. What they did is unacceptable. Some leases say that the landlords have to give you a certain amount of time's notice if someone is going to be coming into your home for maintenance. For example, maintenance came into my apartment today to clean the furnace and check the fire alarm, and they gave us a three days heads up so we weren't taken by surprise. Of course, they didn't screw with my pet's stuff or leave the door wide open. Is there somewhere you can keep your kitty so he stays safe while they're doing the work? I just wouldn't want him to get out or something. And maybe there's a person you could stay with until this is done? I know it might not feel as safe as your home felt before all this, but at least you know that those men won't be a problem for the time being. Be safe, be confident, and stick to your guns! This should not happen to people, it's just ridiculous! I hope you are feeling a little better by tomorrow, and hope your kitty wasn't too stressed by this either <3 |

I am so sorry you were intruded upon like this. I don't know what I would do if that happened to me. Anything come of filing the police report? Hopefully someone is in your and your neighbors' corner on this! Let us know what happens...

So, I wrote a very nice email to Building Management that next morning, I didn't call the police or ICE in the light of day...score 1 for progress
![]() I received an unsatisfactory email response from Management (did not address all of my concerns and glossed over one very important point) ![]() To which I (calmly) wrote back again, but this time, referring to California Civil Code, Green v. Superior Court and Brown, Warner, Portman - in my own words. 15 minutes later, they provided most of the information I requested. The workers were MIA all weekend. Peace and quiet. When I got home Mon night, there was a hand-delivered notification on my front door stating the days / hours the workers would be in my home, and the end date of the renovation, along with some other important information. Considering the circumstances, I believe it was a win-win ![]() Thanks again for your support ![]() |
