I have severe anxiety in crowds of people. Mine gets worse as I age too.
My mom wants to go shopping every day. I sit outside and smoke until she is done. I don't talk to people, I just simply nod. I also had a good job. I felt like everyone there was against me. They had food for the employees sometimes. I felt like they were trying to poison me, so I didn't eat the food. Eventually I was fired because I couldn't function on the job. I hope that doesn't happen to you. You could try meditation, but it doesn't work for everyone. I would suggest a couple sessions of hypnosis. I hope you can find your path to freedom. Good luck.

Been at my job working night shift as a nurse for going on 6 years have came close to losing my job for excessive absenteeism...the our days I literally can't leave my house and even on my days off I rarely go anywhere without either my husband or daughter and for the most part just don't leave home unless I have to. Depending on the week I have sometimes multiple anxiety attacks and am finding it harder and harder to function at work especially if it gets at all stressful. In a constant state of anxiety, worry and depression. Hope eventually something helps. Still waiting to see psychiatrist on no meds at the present.

Welcome to PC. My anxiety has also become worse as I have gotten older. I too am a nurse and after being very proficient at my job for a number of years I found it becoming a struggle for me. It is disheartening. I hope hings go well when you see your psychiatrist.

I, too, have anxiety issues of being so nervous that I can hardly sit still.
My problem is that I have little income (I'm disabled with M.S.), and do not work, so I cannot afford a psychiatrist. I am on a "waiting list" for therapy for the last two months and have not heard anything. I think I will call them on Monday and see how much longer it will be. Anyone know of any resources other than their Primary Care Doctor that would help? Thanks! |

It can be very expensive between myself and my daughter it is a struggle to be able to afford to see therapists and psychiatrist seems one of us has some sort of appointment weekly and sometimes multiple trips in a week. My daughter alone has an appoint somewhere every week in February and I have two at least in February, I get to actually see the dr for the first time. So really hoping if I get started on some medication I will feel like living life again. What medication or treatments have work well for you?

I have started a journal to record my mood and activities. I have started walking on a treadmill and cycling on a stationary bike. Im trying to work out every day. Its so hard but I am actually starting to feel good. Also for the anxiety, when i get that surge that feels like electrical shocks in my chest and arms, I try to focus on breathing deep and visualize that I am a strong and powerful woman.
I am starting to feel better. The anxiety still comes but I am able to stop it in its tracks with the visualization. It still hurts though those shocks. What do you do to stop anxiety in its tracks? What do your therapists suggest? |

I sooo kmow how you feel. My anxiety can be debilitating. Anticipating, wanting, needing a "good" day, only to be faced with another hard day is indescribable. Have tried various med combos through the years, therapy. I don't want to give up!
