I have obsessive compulsive disorder, and when I try to go to sleep at night, I'll lay in bed and worry about things that have happened before and could happen again but have nothing to do with anything that is going on currently.

For example, last night I was laying in bed rolling around with a stomach ache because I was so worried that my husband's kidney stone would start acting up again. His stone hasn't acted up since last year, and nothing was said or done to remind me of it. I laid there in bed sick to my stomach with worry for four hours making a plan of action should his kidney stone start acting up again. I have talked to my doctor and he has put me on more sleeping medicine but it is still not working. As I type this I have gone the last four days with 2-3 hours of sleep a night, and it is killing me.

Has this happened to anyone else? Is this normal? What should I do when this happens?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Angel
I'm new to this site. When I read your post I had to respond I felt like it could have been written by me. I am newly DX with OCD, within the last week. I worry so much it was consuming me esp at night. My doctor started me on Lexapro and Xanax @night for sleep and prn for anxiety. The first 5 nights I slept great however the last 2 nights were awful. I'll be anxious to hear how others deal with this.

Hi Angel,

Although I have not been officially diagnosed with OCD, I certainly can relate to a fair number of the symptoms. I used to have trouble sleeping due to obsessive and recurring thoughts. I'm on Wellbutrin which has helped a lot. I still have obsessive thought patterns, but they usually dont keep me awake.
