I have had anxiety and some panic attacks for a long time. I was wondering if anyone knew any good anxiety pills that are not Benzos and not Buspar, but are fast acting?

Neurontin, taken regularly, helps reduce anxiety with few side effects. I take 600 mg x 3 daily as the situation warrants it. It's not a benzo, but helps reduce anxiety when I'm feeling general anxiety.

Nevermind...I just noticed you're already taking Neurontin...

Celexa is neither a benzo nor buspar. What does your doctor recommend?

ativan works almost instantly for me... but its quite strong and not meant for long term use. maybe you could use it while you are waiting for something else to work... such as luvox or anafranil or lexapro or something

gabapentin was prescribed for me for anxiety...but it would be a daily med you would need to take to have it build up in your system and would work as a preventative. He had said that or lyrica (both known as restless leg syndrome drugs), but gabapentin was a generic so I tried that.
I had bad side effects but don't let that scare you off...I do to every psych med I have tried but benzos.

I'm new to the forum and don't know what Benzos and Buspar is. Is it bad? I take xanax and that works but you have to take it sparingly or they say it can be addicting.

Xanax is a benzodiazepene.

Benzodiazepines | Drugs.com

Not everyone who takes a benzo gets addicted. I take a different, stronger benzo (klonopin) I was told to take every night (I take it to help me to not have awful dreams)....when I told my pdoc I wasn't taking it when I thought I wouldn't sleep anyway (insomniac)...my pdoc said I could have seizures, etc, so to take it regardless. Benzodiazapenes like xanax and ativan have a shorter lasting effect then klonopin.

One can often build up a resistance to any benzo over time and need more to get the same result. I haven't had that reaction to klonopin, and I am also not addicted to it.

Buspar is a medication used for both animals (my friends have cats who are on it) and people to treat anxiety. It is very mild with few side effects. It did nothing for me. It HAS helped my friends' cats tho.

Hope that helped some.

Thank you! HA- I hadn't realized they give that stuff to pets. Well, I guess even animals get stress and anxiety. I notice my xanax doesn't last all that long, but I try to use it very sparingly.
