Hi, here is Wasantha Weerasekera. I want to know something about the relation between depression and music and this is the reason I have joined this community. Please suggest me because I have heard that through music depression can be reduced.
Please suggest.
Thanks

Wasantha, I work for a mental health news site and we have had a lot of news articles about music and depression. Yes, upbeat music helps. But, ironically it has been proven that if you are depressed, listening to slightly depressing music can also help with your depression....the studies are not sure why...I guess that maybe we can relate to the music and it helps us experience and get rid of our sad thoughts? Just my thoughts....D.

Good article listing other articles and studies on the subject:

Music therapy for depression: it seems to work, but how?
