For the second week in a row I've had daughter to the ER. Before that she was there for an abcessed tooth last month. She's had too much pain for too long...too long. She's getting massively depressed thinking it will never end. I've been soooooooooooo concerned.

They kept saying it was muscles and that she kept reinjuring them due to babysitting every day, etc. She was just dealing with a pulled muscle and inflamation. She would do better, then literally scream and cry. It's been horrible and so exhausting for her, and everyone.

I took her out tonight as she "injured" it again. She was still in pain after three full shots of morphine, a muscle relaxer and steriods. Had Daughter to ER again tonight. They did a cat scan (which was still very hard for her after three shots) due to the fear the the spinal cord was being compressed because of the pain, numbness and heaviness in her right leg.

The cat scan showed two herniated discs. She's 18. Had Daughter to ER again tonight. They said a follow-up MRI needs to be done to find exactly what else might be there that didn't show up.

The anxiety of three weeks of this has been amazing. She had a meltdown and I don't blame her. She yelled at the doctor, hyperventilated, teeth chattering. It was so hard to watch and such a helpless feeling now for weeks.

The little man starts his first day of school tomorrow, and I will make it amazing for him. I just will.

It's just been an anxious time, but now we know what we're dealing with. We're hopeful with the help of meds and steriods.

Please keep the family, my daughter, in your thoughts.

Love,

KD

(((KD))) Take care of yourself too. My husband didn't feel well in the middle of the night last night and I started down the "what if. . ." path and don't recommend it. Hope your daughter is feeling better today. Sounds fun for the little man; I bet you will make it special!

((kd))) I certainly can feel your daughter's pain. I've dealt with herniated discs since 1985, and went through a pregnancy & birth with them. Yes, the pain can be unbearable. I suggest if you can find a pain management center near you, take her there if at all feasible. They can help her manage her pain in many ways along with or other than drugs.

I've very rarely ever taken pain medication for my back issues, just too easy to get on that cycle. I have done biofeedback and a host of other things, including chiropractic with great positive results. I hope she can find some relief...it just soooooooooooooooo sux!

hugs Lisa

Thank you so much everyone for the support, understanding and information.

She had a pretty good day today. I'm making her stay here at mom's house so I can kick her butt if she does too much. Had Daughter to ER again tonight.

I think the steriods are helping immensely already. We'll see tomorrow. She might get a two day break from the unbearable (still pain but not out of control), then have another episode. Tomorrow will tell the tale, I think.

I've asked her to stay here this week. She's agreed.

I'll keep you posted. Had Daughter to ER again tonight. Her man engaged to her tonight throughout all of this...

KD

PS - Little man did AMAZINGLY. Not one tear. The teacher said that a person would think he's a second year preschooler. He just did it great. Had Daughter to ER again tonight.

Eh, poor girl, how horrible. I hope the doctors figure this out soon so that her suffering will stop! Just remain cool and by her side, that should encourage her to do the same, even in such horrible pain.

Thanks, Desirae. Had Daughter to ER again tonight.

Everyone --

She's still trying to manage. she had a couple of good days then moved wrong and BOOM. This time I was right beside her and we worked/breathed through it with my rubbing her head and coo'ing at her. When your child is in that much pain, they're a baby no matter their age.

We didn't have to go to the hospital this time. I got her to focus on a playstation game and she was able to bring it back down with no hospital! I think they steroids are working some too.

We have to call and get in with family doctor today because she's going to need more meds and they highly suggested an MRI to see what else might be going on there (they suspect more).

From there we might have therapy, pain management, etc. We talked last night about the "long haul" and she cried because it's already been too long for her...right around three weeks now.

She's so young and I feel so bad for her pain. She thanked me for talking her down and said had she been at her apt. she couldn't have done it alone and we would've been back out to the hosp.

I'm very worried about her anxiety/depression with this. When we go to the dr. I'm going to discuss it.

Thanks again so much,

KD

thank you ((((((((((jax, girls & gurl))))))))))))

cross your finger, send thoughts, or say a prayer (whatever we individually do) please...

I think the steriods are working. Today she's moved much better with minimal pain and only two pain pills. Even better, her leg is feeling almost normal again. To me, that says the swelling is going down. Had Daughter to ER again tonight.

We see the dr tomorrow for confirmation and more tests.

Thank you so much everyone Had Daughter to ER again tonight.

I'll keep you posted!

Thank you so much everyone, for caring and supporting...

I had daughter to a family doctor today (we needed to get a new one for her - she wouldn't pick one for a while).

He was awesome. She loved him and thought he was very personable, caring and to top it off, cute. Had Daughter to ER again tonight.

Last night she'd told me that she didn't want to jinx anything, but her leg was feeling normal. I later told her that I noticed she was walking much more normally. This morning she was doing just as good! The steroids are working!!! YAY!!! She only had one pain pill yesterday and one at about 4 a.m. this morning!!!

The family dr. said that it's going to be a good year of healing, but we'll try to get her through this without surgery. If we can get her through the next year without anything bad (big injury, rupture, etc.), she should be ok for many years...

He wants to set her up with physical therapy to strengthen the muscles back there, but also to help her learn to lift, bend, exercise, etc. She can't do that for at least two more weeks though. She needs more healing time.

He will see her in a week. If she starts to stiffen up again next week, we're to call immediately to get her back on muscle relaxers and shots in the back of localized steroid. She has enough muscle relaxers to take through this weekend and he wants her to.

He said if ANYTHING worsens from this point, we're to call immediately. He seemed very caring and asked about her emotional state and plans for tech college. He thinks the anxiety/depression is related directly to everything she's been through and that it will improve as she does physically, but we'll watch it. He questioned for a history of depression, etc.

I really liked him. Daughter loved him. TOO COOL!!! She's healing.

Please keep her in your thoughts, prayers, wishes that the healing continues!!!!

Love ya's!

KD

Thank you very much ((((( sarah )))))

Even though she's "grown", that statement is awesome to hear because, I'll tell ya...this past week she wasn't a young woman, she was a little girl who needed her mama.
