My anxiety levels increase whenever I travel. Usually travelling is more tolerable when I am alone, because I can somewhat control what I am doing. It is a lot worse when I have to travel with others. In two weeks I am going on a vacation with my family and will not be able to travel alone. I am already feeling anxious.

I like going on trips but I hate the disruption and adjustment that I must go through before I can enjoy myself. Does anyone get this? How can I cope with it?

I found travel a real bummer so now I don't unless I drive , 70 mile is about my limit from my comfort zone . Its the fear of something may happen when your away from your sanctuary In the end I found its not worth making myself ill for. Take benzos on the way out and way back is all I can think. Or a stiff drink to calm the nerves

Thank you for the replies.

Getting a prescription for benzo's sounds like a good idea. I can really use one right now. Thinking about this vacation is making me very anxious.

I decided to bring my mug, coffee and cone filter so I can have my own coffee the way I like it. I hope this will help.

Hmm, is it possible that you can take some music with you? Like a ipod or something? Or what about if you need some time to calm down, take a portable dvd player with you and turn on a movie but mute the sound so that people think you are watching a movie but you are really just getting a moment to compose yourself. Maybe take a small cloth with lavender oil on it to smell when you are worked up, and perhaps a good nights rest and tea before you get on the road.

Those are thinks a normal person takes on a flight or bus long haul, anxiety through the roof has to be nuked or you just panick attack. Putting yourself in a benzo haze is dulling the anxiety into submission , to much alcohol and you make yourself into a fool and a liability . I go with Benzo total cover

I'd be careful with benzos/going through customs combination, especially if you doing benzos for first time. Not a first hand experience, thank god, but a friend was almost not let into a country this way

If taking meds on a flight, make sure you've got your prescription label. I have taken meds on a vacation this summer.

I wasn't drugged on the way, back, nor while out on my mini-vacation, but dear lord, that just reminded me of the flight home! Glad there were a few stops...real glad, those young adult men, behind me, got off the plane...

Thanks you all for the advice and humor. Hopefully I won't have to deal with inebriated people.

My friend recommended I see my doctor for a benzo script.

I like the scented oil suggestion. This sounds like a really good coping strategy, because I tend to get overwhelmed by nasty smells.
