I've been in a mild (?) depression, and I've done everything I am supposed to: vitamins, minerals, herbs, breathing, meditation, sunlight, relaxation exercises. I've been able to 'keep my head above water.' But I had a horrible night last night -- bad dreams -- kept waking up -- and I think I had a panic attack. I woke up feeling like if I got out from underneath the covers, I would die.

I'm starting a job with a lot of responsibility in the next week or two (I take my employment physical Tuesday). Is this anxiety due to starting a new job??

I am a 58-year-old woman, who retired (early) last February. Moved out of state (about 1/3 across country). Bought a fixer-upper house, knowing that I would have to go back to work to fix it up. No problem. Except the holidays started coming, I got homesick, and I really don't know many people here. I think I've just bit off more than I can chew in too-short a time.

But I am REALLY scared this morning. I've been Clinically Depressed before. About 15 years ago. I don't want to go back into it.

Everyone seems to nice here. You're so encouraging. Thank you for letting me be here.

I'm so sorry you are feeling scared, anxious, and homesick. You sure do have a lot going on right now. It's understandable that you would be feeling anxious about the new job and also depressed about your first holidays in a new place where you don't know many people.

Going back to work and fixing up your house sounds exciting.

For the homesickness, could you call family and friends more frequently to help with your homesickness? Make plans for a trip back home so that you have that to look forward to?

Would it be possible to find a therapist to help you get through this rough spot?

Keep posting here and we will keep you company, offer our shoulders to lean on, send our hugs your way!

Hello I hope things get better for you soon. There may be help for you to get your house in order for the winter. I live in Ohio and there is help or lower income people to help get their homes inorder for the winter. I do not know what state you are in but you may want to call someone in your county to see if help is available for winter weatherization or help for people with moderate incomes. Take care sincerely Soidhonia

Hi Bella,

Our bodies have a way of letting us get away with just so much, then they complain. It sounds like you had your moment the other night.

I wasn't able to get my college degree until I was 37. At that point though, I had both my undergraduate and graduate degrees. When I returned from the interview at the Fortune 500 company, I wound up working for, for 17 years, I came home and got under the covers of my bed. I had spoken to three vice presidents, and the job sounded like everything I wanted.

I'm glad you found PC. There are a lot of great and caring people here.
