He gave me buspar for anxiety. It lowered my serotonin levels to dangerously low. I now have a fear that I never had before. I woke up in the middle of the night panicking and crying. My anxiety has always been an issue with him but he won't put my on antidepressants because I am bipolar. But I need something to bring the serotonin back up in my brain because I am afraid that the buspar permanently did stuff. I don't know what's going on.
I want to start benzodiazepines because they have been shown to be the best medication for anxiety. I spent the entire day today at a psychiatric hospital just questioning the meaning of everything and sitting in the waiting room all up in my head about "What if I die tomorrow?" This is sickening and today is Saturday so I guess psychiatrists don't want to work today and I am going to have to wait until Monday morning to get in with another psychiatrist. I am so fed up with this life I have! |

im sorry the buspar didn't work for you...I take buspar for my anxiety and it works great....I tried the antidepressant route and it threw me into a massive mania with psychosis, so I understand your pdocs hesitation there and the nature of benzos being addicting, a lot of pdocs shy away from prescribing them for that reason. I hope you have better luck on Monday.

I would push for the benzos, they do work; only thing that works for me---and I haven't had to increase the dosage used for more than 15yrs.

The amount of buspar you took likely did nothing, you ate correct, until you get the drugs you want nothing will work, please don't take your dads pills for anti- deppressant as you thought before, you'll be alright, just breathe!

I've been on the same meds for 12 years anything I suggest to the psych dr he just dont have it, clearly the meds are not working otherwise I wouldn't be feeling so mentally ill.
The one he did try me on was ariproprazole and it made me so confused so now he's come to the conclusion that no meds agree with me? Honestly I could kick his face in Hope your ok J |

I use Propranolol, which helps; it doesn't get rid of it, but it certainly helps. Propranolol is a beta-blocked. IDK about serotonin, though.

Mindfulness, knitting/other rhythmic activities can increase serotonin also---not a bad idea to raise the dopamine either with exercise etal....do do some research...

Hi,
I have bipolar and GAD. Saphris helped me with my anxiety, and works to stabilize mood. I kind of hate taking it, but it does help and it's not addictive. Very sedating though.

If med's are what you are seeking. I would try 1st for a benzo - something like Klonapin is along lasting benzo.
The pdoc could alos try a mood stabilizer such as lamictal/depacote (sp) with a antidepressant to lower the risk of mania/psychosis. I am very sensitive to SSRi's they make me manic but I am bipolar - so I have to take with a mood stabilizer. None med approach many suggested some great things. Certain foods and or exercise can help bump up serotonin levels. Try tweaking your diet around and take a 20-30 min walk a day and see how that goes. |

I have an appointment with my psychiatrist this Thursday. Technically you get 10 to 15 minutes tops with her to discuss how you're doing on your medications and any concerns you have. That is MAX. Usually she tries to have me out sooner than that. If I try to discuss issues or meds and if I repeat myself, she doesn't like it and mentions not to repeat. If I mention something that is going on that is not related to the meds at all, she mentions about that and let's go back to the meds you are taking right now. I'm in and back outta there so fast my head could spin. If someone, or some insurance company, whatever, is paying big bucks for a 10 minute max psychiatrist who seems to lecture a person at every corner, what is a person supposed to do? She is the only one they give me for this clinic/hospital. I'm always nervous when I go see her. She gets several patients in one day and I feel she just pushes them along.
Oh, and back to you, I am glad you are thinking of a second opinion by seeing another psychiatrist. I know from past experience that when they switched by psychiatrist because one was retiring, they played in different ball fields and didn't speak the same way about things.

have you considered beta blockers? I use propranolol. it lowers your heart rate and means you are less likely to get the shakes and sweats when youre anxious, and therefore you can concentrate on speaking, moving, and doing everything else. I promise it saved my life. I wana cry for what its done for me
