I am absolutely terrified of loud/sudden noises.

My garage sometimes lets off a massive 'bang' when its opening. I always have to reach my arm through the door to the garage to press the button, so I don't walk in and get startled by the noise or someone presses it first and I walk in after them. I also hate the sound of popping balloons and the suspense of knowing/thinking a balloon is going to pop. I hate the scratchy noise it makes when people grab it and I hate it when someone is actually trying to make one pop, whether it be blowing it up really big or popping it with their hands or a pin. I'm so anxious around them, I feel stupid.

I also get startled easy, when someone tries to sneak up on me to scare me. Even in movies, I jump at the sudden loud noises and I feel like an idiot because of it.

And I always fear when someone is showing a video, there's going to be a screamer, which scares the crap out of me, even though its really stupid.

Hi there,
I may not be terrified of loud noises, but I can't stand loud noises. They put me on edge so quickly! Doesn't matter the type of sound/noise- voices, music, construction, people in groups, concerts, etc.
Are you terrified, or just afraid of other things? This might give you a starting point to explore the reason why loud noises scare you. Good luck!

I had huge noise sensitivity issues a while back. It was triggered by noisy neighbours but continued when they had gone. I would suggest gradual desensitisation to noises. Work with a therapist and start with a noise you won't like but will not make you terrified. Gradually increase the level (within safe limits, don't hurt your ears!) until the anxiety starts to lessen. You may not like loud sudden noises, most people don't but at least it won't terrify you.
