I recently went completely numb in my arms and face before a panic attack. This is the first time this has ever happened to me, and I'm terrified it's something other than panic. This happened before I started panicking, not after, I was convinced I was having a heart attack or stroke, it was so intense. Has this happened to anyone else? Should I be as worried as I am? I've also suddenly begun experiencing heart palpitations, which are also new.

Panic attacks can create all sorts of terrifying effects, solipsist. I've certainly had my share, although I can't say I have experienced what you describe. Under any circumstances, it's best to err on the safe side. See your physician & get this checked out. Your doctor is in the best position to determine whether or not this is something to be concerned about. My best wishes to you...

This is a documented symptom of a panic attack, yes. It happens to some people.

I've been to the ER 4 times in the last 2 weeks, was hooked up to a heart monitor, and am going in for a stress echo tomorrow if I can make it on the bus to get there. I'm terrified there's something wrong with my heart or brain, since these are all new sudden symptoms, but it's looking like it's panic. I just don't understand how all of my symptoms could suddenly get worse, and it's really wearing me down. I've been staying with my mother, missing work, and am afraid to go back home and be alone.

I've been through the same thing, same feeling. Many ER and doctor visits. Many tests.

Basically, when I panic or get stressed I hyperventilate. Sometimes without realizing I'm breathing differently at all. That changes the blood pH and causes numbness.

Take care.

Thank you, I really appreciate the feedback. I've had pretty much everything tested, and it seems to be panic, which sucks, but it's better than having a stroke.
