Are any of you on this med for OCD? I read that Luvox was good for this when my pdoc told me that that was what Lexapro was for. Somehow I don't think she's informed correctly? Lexapro

I am not on Lexapro, but I have been taking Celexa for the last seven months and the medicine I am on is the sister med to yours..... Lexapro is the cleaned up version of Celexa.

They are both take about 12 weeks to really get into your blood stream, but the effects can be felt by some within 4 weeks.... one should be able to notice a considerably difference by the 4 to 5 week.

I am on Lexapro for depression. My pharmacy information says that Lexapro can also be used on GAD. I can tell that it lowers anxiety at work. I seem to spend less time worrying about what others think of me. As for OCD, I don't know. I know that some anti-depressants are used for it. Lexapro's manufacturer has a website which can be googled which has the patient leaflet on it. I read it because my doctor didn't tell me much about the drug when she ask me to try it.

Hi everyone, I'm a newbie and I'm glad I found all of you. This place seems so supportive and full of information.

I am considering taking Lexapro for anxiety - I am already on Wellbutrin for depression and it works great for that, but I'm sick of dealing with the anxiety and dread.

I'm curious as to how long it took for you to feel ANY benefits from the Lexapro. I have heard 4-5 weeks (regarding Celexa, maybe?) and even though I may sound like a little brat throwing a fit, I don't want to wait 4- 5 weeks! (lol)

Thanks in advance for any responses!

I started taking Lexapro in August for anxiety, I would say within 3 weeks I felt 50% better. My doctor said by week 5-6 I should be feeling the full benefits of the med. He was right.
Although the last 2 weeks or so my anxities seem to be increasing along with the sleepless nights, I am only taking 10 mg of Lexapro could it be that I will need the dosage increased?

I am SO hoping that this will work for me. I am on Wellbutrin for depression and it works great for that, but the anxiety wears me out and I'm sick of living this way since I don't have to.

That's great that so many of you have found this effective for you!

Lexapro is marketed to be one of the better SSRI's because it (supposedly) has fewer side effects...I know many people who have taken it and do quite well on it....

It is related to Celexa - chemically, it has the same components but it's structure is the mirror image.

As far as I know it takes four to six weeks to work...It is primarily used for anxiety and depression but as someone else said, OCD is an anxiety disorder...

I'm on Lexapro and it's not doing a thing for my anxiety! I've been on it long enough for it to be working... and it's not. Lexapro

I started taking it a couple of weeks ago - started with 5 mg and have noticed that it's taken the edge off of the anxiety. I went up to 10 mg about 3 days ago and it seems to have already helped a little more. I know I've been sleeping better since being on it, which is definitely a benefit as well.

I read that Lexapro causes some people to gain weight. Has anyone experienced this or heard of it?

Thanks in advance.

I haven't gained any weight on it so far. Different meds affect different people different ways. Lexapro Did I say the word "different" enough times? LOL

Thank you for responding, that makes me feel hopeful that it won't make me gain. (For once in my life I'm content with my body) I'm finally addressing my anxiety and Lexapro has been EXTREMELY effective for me. It's amazing to not have the feeling of dread for the first time in.....probably 28 years or so, I'd say. I'm sure some of you can identify.

I've noticed that I'm sleepier all the time and of course, the sex drive isn't what it was, but throwing in weight gain as well just might be a dealbreaker. I don't think that would help with the depression aspect!

Time will tell.

How long have you been taking Lexapro, if you don't mind my asking? I'm on 10 mg, but even 5mg was helping. I'm thinking that maybe trying to stay at 5mg might not be a bad idea - the sleepiness part is getting in the way of the occasional graveyard shifts I have to work. We'll see!!

Take care.

I just saw your earlier post in which you said Lexapro wasn't working for you yet - has it starting helping your anxiety??

Hope you have been able to get some relief.

I was on Lexapro for a while. Hated it. But hopefully you can find it to work for you!
