Hi Guys,
I have this problem. I tend to clear my throat a lot when in center of attention. This could be while speaking with any person on one to one basis. This include Female or male friends or colleagues. |

Hi and welcome to PC me knight - since you're posting in this forum, are you having struggles in this area. Social anxieties are manageable with the right help. Try not to worry to much about clearing your throat because worrying will intensify the urge. Perhaps keeping a bottled water with you might help. I have also suffered with social anxieties especially when I was younger. Learning slow deep breathing and calming exercises also helps. Good luck.

Hi Lynn,
Thanks for your advise. However i find that water tend to increase my urge to clear my throat. i used to be shy and sort of have it when i was younger but i grew out of it, but it came back to me after some failures in life..i just want to talk to people face to face and be social and not let this thing hinder me :-) |

My husband does the throat-clearing behavior. It comes from his social anxiety. It's a "nervous habit".

I do this as well. I'm not quite sure where this habit came from but its mostly something I end up doing if I need to pause to think in the middle of conversation. As opposed to saying um, uh....etc.
