I would like to become a chat group leader and am brainstorming the topic of an Anxiety Support Chat.

I was initially thinking Friday would be a good day, as that is the only day on the calendar that does not have a chat assigned to it yet; however, I think that Thursdays may be easier for me. I am thinking maybe 3-4pm PDT?

Who would be interested in partaking in this type of support chat?
Do Thursdays at 3-4pm PDT work for you? If not, please share what would work better for you (day of week and/or time).

I was initially thinking of doing just an OCD Chat, but since there is neither an OCD chat or more general anxiety chat at this time, I want to stick with calling it an "anxiety" chat, to cover all bases (not only for those who have specific disorders, but for those who experience other forms of anxiety, etc.).

Thanks!

PDT is Pacific Daylight Time. It is called PST (Pacific Standard Time) when not daylight savings time. I am in the US (California).

i see a great need for an Anxiety Management Chat, which teaches skills as well as provides emotional support. i would, however, like to see a more senior PC member at least Co-Lead the group. this is a very sensitive area, and absences are likely to be more hurtful than in some other groups.

i would actually prefer an earlier time for a group, as i tend to wear out by 2pm and take a nap .

there is a basic skills post in this forum which might be useful:

best wishes~

Birds- I think this is a great idea.

It's not clear to me if you have personal experience with OCD or not.

If not, I especially agree with Gus on having a co-leader- one who has experience and knowledge of OCD. Then you are covering all the bases if you want to be inclusive of most anxiety disorders.

It is probably a good idea anyway, though. But doubly so since you are a newer member and just aren't as familiar with anyone- also it can give you coverage if you need to take one of the times off.

If you are interested in looking for a co-leader, I would be willing to volunteer if you want to check out my posts, or discuss with me a little bit in chat. I've studied psych formally and informally for several years and have experience in peer support to a degree, I also briefly had a chat before. I also experience OCD and to some degree social anxiety off and on.

No hard feelings if you aren't interested, but thought I would volunteer.

I'm in chat pretty often, if you want to catch me. You can check out some of my posts on the board as well or send me a board message [I have it set so anyone can message me].

I'd also recommend, if you have a flexible schedule in terms of the chat time, you could maybe do a poll on both of these threads?

Josie.

Josie, that would be great if you would like to co-lead the chat with me! You are right, I am new, so I do not know any of the other members, but I just wanted to try to lend a hand regardless. I have personal experience with both OCD (checking, touch and sound hypersensitivity, and a variety of more specific things) and other anxiety issues. My OCD first flared in elementary school (pretty bad touch-counting, flickering lights, and lining things up), stopped for a few years, and then kicked back up about 6-7 years ago. I also have issues with grief, which is not really anxiety related, but just thought I would share that too. I am a Psych major working on my BA (and have an AA in Psych) and will then be applying for MA programs to become a Marriage and Family Therapist. I will send you a PM when I get onto the computer, so we can discuss more and talk about times (i.e. the poll).

I'd like to be a part of this support group. It's so important to me that I would be willing to work my schedule around it, so plan away and thanks for suggesting a support group like this.

Thank you, NuckingFutz! I am glad there is a "want" for this type of support chat!

We are currently working out some potential days/times and will hopefully post with an update soon!
