Hello all.

Struggling with anxiety is a fairly new issue for me. I say new, but I have probably struggled with it for just over a year. I have always had depression issues so I am familiar with that, but I am still learning about what works for me with anxiety.

I started with having issues with public speaking. Which I have always struggled with but it was mild. Totally manageable. I went through a traumatic time about a year and a half ago and ever since then my anxiety has been through the roof. Saw a Pdoc who gave me Propranolol for presentations. It helped tremendously. The issue now is that the anxiety is becoming more chronic. It's more like when I'm talking to people or am sitting in class and have to talk and participate. I get red and sweat. It sucks. I never used to have this issue.

So the Pdoc gave me Xanax to take as needed. I didn't really feel like it was necessary or working and when I went back for a med check I explained it to him and he prescribed Buspirone. I haven't filled it yet, but am planning to do so today. I don't know much about it or what to expect.

Have others had any experience with this drug or can relate to my symptoms? I don't know what the best course of action is at this point. But some relief would be helpful.

my anxiety kicked into full gear all of a sudden too. to the point of having hallucinations...it was awful...I was given klonopin but didn't like that it was addicting so I got on buspar. it did the trick. I don't experience any side effects from it. it does the job of taking the edge off my anxiety. I still take klonopin from time to time if something overwhelms me, but buspar lets me go about a normal life.

Thank you so much for posting this. It has given me some hope. I am so tired of flipping around with meds and trying this and that. I am really hoping this works.

About how long did it take to notice that it worked for you?

I take buspar. The dosage starts off low and builds up to therapeutic level in increments two weeks at a time for each dosage increase. It's like an antidepressant in that it has to build up in your system before it works. It is longer acting unlike a benzo. It does take the edge off.

Mine is 15mg. I'm wondering what your experience has been like so far with it.
I took one last night just to get it in my system and it made me tired. Actually it reminded me of when I took Zoloft. Groggy. Couldn't keep my eyes open. I hope this will go away...

I take buspirone 3x/day. It's good for me. It doesn't stop my anxiety 100% all the time, but I am worlds better than I used to be. No side effects really that I can tell.
Thanks for this!
