I had my first panic attack this weekend. I've been working on my child abuse trauma the past 2 months. I haven't talked to anyone aside from my support group and therapists.
I was at a cabin with old friends and thought I'd bring it up because of my emotional triggers. As I began to share, I had a panic attack and was hyperventilating. I wanted to escape but had no where to really run to but a corner.
The event was humiliating especially since I felt debilitated from hyperventilating. I am now worried that it will happen again and get nervous when I go out in public.

Any word of advice?

When choosing to share personal details about your life make sure the time and place is right. Tell your therapist what happened. Also when you are not stressed try practising deep breathing until you can feel calmer. This will help when the panic attack is real. Writing events/feelings down so you can express yourself may also help.
