Do you refrain from drinking coffee because it's known to make anxiety symptoms worse? Or do you continue to drink it no matter what?

I don't drink anything with caffeine because of the anxiety it causes but I also suffer from bipolar which can trigger mania. It's hard because my meds make me groggy for part of the day.

I don't drink coffee often, but when I do (and if I do quickly) it really affects my anxiety. I am trying to stay away from it, but know I will end up drinking it once in a while (slowly though).

Great question and thank you for posting! I was wondering the same thing myself. So a few weeks ago I started drinking decaf. I can't say I noticed a huge differance with my anxiety, but just a little. I usually drink one, maybe two cups max a day. The biggest difference is the taste. I need to find a good decaf. Any recommendations?

I felt pretty bad afterwards when I've consumed any amount of caffeine. It makes whatever mood I'm in, more intense. I stay away from it.

I'm not a big coffee drinker. Sorry, I don't know of any K2TOG. But I'm sure a member who does, will help you out with that.

I have the same problem with diet coke and caffeine. I'm forbidden from my pdoc to drink it but sometimes I cave and do drink it. It sometimes elevates my anxiety but lately I think my meds are doing the trick.

I drink a max of two cups a day. Doesn't seem to affect me beyond two cups.

Although my therapist tells me to refrain from an evening cup as it can cause sleep problems which depending on your disorder can be dangerous. I've listened to his advice as I'm Bipolar 1 and not wanting to go into mania.

When I'm anxious I try to always drink sleepy time tea with valerian root. If you're at work camomile tea is one of many that won't knock you out. I carry a roll bottle of lavender oil that I rub under my nose for calming. They also make a spray you can spritz on your face. I only drink 1 to 2 cups of coffee in the am and no soda. I make iced green tea.

I only drink one cup a day. If I do more, there's an underlying anxiousness that creeps over me. I have a Schizoaffective friend who drinks coke after coke and is so wired, he can't sit still, with the legs be-bopping all over the place. He increases my anxiety just being near him!

I quit drinking coffee for now because after a few hours without it, I would get "jitters" in the form of increased anxiety. But I am going back to college so will most likely have to have a little bit lol. I figure more stress if I fall asleep at my computer and the big essay doesn't get done :P

How about Green tea?

I love it! I drink it most mornings with a teaspoon of honey. It has caffeine but I seem to be okay with it.
