So my mom made me an appointment with a psychiatrist to test my anxiety and possibly get medication if it's bad enough, which I think it is because it's causeing me physical pain in my side and stomach now. I've never seen a psychiatrist before and I'm really anxious and scared, what's it like? I more so deal with social anxiety than general and talking to people is reeeeally hard for me. Thanks in advance..

There is no need to be so scared. Mostly you will just talk with the pdoc so that he can figure out what your problems are and prescribe medications that will help you feel better. Your mom is on the right track in trying to help you.

You aren't alone. A lot of us deal with this same problem.

Don't be scared, in my experience, most Pdocs are very nice people. Hopefully they will prescribe some meds which help you and perhaps suggest some therapy. Talking along with the meds would be good in helping you I hope, I wish you the very best.

Please don't be scared. But, I know I was. Basically, you'll just sit down with him/her and they'll just ask about what you've been dealing with. They may put you on some meds or suggest therapy and that's it!

Hey,
It's normal to be anxious however you don't have to fear. A good pdoc will listen and ask questions to determine if you need medication. It's just like going to see your regular doctor except for your mental health. It's very good that your mother is supportive. If you like, perhaps she can wait outside while the pdoc talks to you. The doctor might also want to talk with her to get more information on how to help you. You'll be ok and you'll find it's not as scary as it seems to be. ![]() Social anxiety can make it hard to talk to the doctor, but remember that he's there to help you. You can write down your symptoms to give it to him as well, if you're afraid you may become too anxious to speak. Good luck! |
