I am 23 years old, never smoked weed before. Although, I know a few people that do. My sister constantly does it, my parents are against it. And I just see it as something I don't necessarily need. I'm not a smoker, I've probably smoked a cig once in a few blue moons for the sake of saying I've smoked.

I am an overall nervous person. This runs in my blood, my mother and sister are nervous people too. What use to help me relax was listening to calm mediating music, and meditating. But, due to certain distractions I have in my mind it becomes hard to do so.

I've heard weed helps one relax. I don't know if that a common excuse most people say to defend their use or if a few puffs does give off a sense of relaxation. I don't think one should depend on something to relax, but does it truly help calm nerves? I would must rather try something "natural" than pills. I am not crazy about it, just curious.

What do you think?

It can. However, usually when one smokes for the first time they experience not so pleasant effects, or some even report feeling nothing at all. The first few times I smoked, I did not like it and I experienced a headache. I was dating a boyfriend at the time who smoked a lot of weed so after my fourth or fifth attempt I started to really enjoy how it made me feel. I developed a medical marijuana weed habit for about a year. I stopped smoking cold turkey eight months ago, and the only thing I have now is a cough that still won't go away.
Yes it can calm you down, it can also make you sleep easier. However I stopped smoking it because I started getting paranoid and panic attacks after I smoked. I ended up shaking in bed under the covers, it felt like my body was shaking from being cold but I wasn't even cold, I was just freaking out and my teeth were chattering. I got good weed from a medical marijuana dispensary so its not like it was laced, either.
Just be smart about it and only use it sparingly, start with just a little bit, and don't develop a habit of it. It's an expensive habit.
By the way I could never smoke around other people because I would end up getting really quiet on weed, I only smoked by myself.

Yes, it relaxes the body very much. It can relax your mind but it can also cause intense paranoia and it's a mild hallucinogenic. The many marijuana strains vary in their effect on the body and mind: some produce more of a body high, some more of a head high (stone), some a combination of both. Weed can also produce a lot of introspection because your senses are heightened and your perspective is slightly different. It puts you right in the moment which is a great feeling if you constantly worry about the future, past or even the present. It's produced a lot of spiritual moments in me and problem-solving is from a different angle. I've had answers to problems/issues just spontaneously pop into my head when high. It's all about how you use it. Same goes for other hallucinogenics. It can be psychologically addictive.

After weed metabolizes after a few uses, paranoia can set in during later experiences. So, dont make it too much of a habit.

Most people I know with anxiety smoke a nice medium strength Indica before bed, mellow and feels good in the sheets. Sativa personally makes me worse. So hash is safe in the same light. Everyone has their brand but finding it might cause some grief.

I have found that it helps me a lot actually when I am around those I am comfortable with. However if I am "ambushed" as in someone stops over with little notice or my boyfriend insists we go somewhere before I am fully comfortable socializing, it has the opposite effect and I actually have had anxiety attacks about people seeing me in that state and me being self conscious about how I am asking. While I do not want to encourage you to do something bad or illegal, you could try in the comfort of someone close to you (close friend or your sister) and see how you feel.

I've found that the edibles don't make me paranoid, but smoking weed sometimes can. I use it for PTSD and anxiety, and it's helped so much. The only drawback is how expensive it is. Sometimes I can't afford it and have to use klonopin instead (which doesn't work as well).

I have panic disorder. If I could get enough weed to last me the month for free like I do my 4, 2mg Xanax a day, I would do so in a heart beat. Medium and up calms me more than my Xanax. I started out on editables. Brownies. You can use low grade (here it's like $25) for editables. One or two of them is perfect. I use the personal size mix because it's less to eat but more potent per brownie. They will last you a while.

I don't smoke anymore, but used to several years ago and while smoking weed could be very relaxing, I found it disturbed my sleep patterns quite a bit. But overall I think I was more relaxed.

If it's something you don't feel you need then I think that's a good thing. (: I enjoyed marijuana for four years and the last time I smoked (two days ago) I had the worst panic attack I've ever had. I also really feel I would have made (PERHAPS) better choices had I not began smoking weed.. Though it is hard to know for certain. There are certainly many other ways to relax. It's definitely hard to say one way or the other though cos clonopin and Xanax are so addictive.. That weed could be a better alternative.. Probably best though not to need any substance at all?

I started off/on last five years after not using it in high school (1982). It really messes your lungs up even if you try to filter it. The natural reaction of the lungs (to irritation) is to produce extra phlegm. If I stop smoking it takes me 3-5 wks before my lungs stop producing extra mucus. Vaporizing, edibles would be best alternative. I've tried filtering a bong (for toxins) with active carbon but only slightly helps. There are like 37 toxins in marijuana smoke so this Nat'l. medical marijuana experiment is a complete sham and is going to have huge health and economic fallout.

Exactly. There's two types that I know of. One that gets you super head high (which usually is the reason for some people having panic attacks. I can't remember the two strains. But the other is a body high. So you feel super relaxed and you might just fall asleep. Lol

I asked myself that question once also, infact i tried it and it was certainly not a good choice to make as weed is known to increase paranoia. I have also heard of people having panic attacks from smoking weed, but i guess it really depends on the type of anxiety you have. Just like alcohol works for some and does the opposite for others.

Pot is a medicine and should be dealt with as such. It helps me. Like all medicines, you have to find which strain works best. It's 2015 and it's time for pot to be shown more respect for a medicine. For me, I would go hiking for a few hours in the mountains and smoke some pot. Set and setting are important to use this type of medicine. But it's not for everyone.

I don't smoke anymore, but it definitely relaxed me. No paranoia.
