I've had to post here there's nowhere else I go with this without sounding stupid.

My 6yo wants to go trick or treating and I desperately don't want to do it. The thought of knocking on strangers doors makes me feel physically sick. I've managed to put it off every year but this year my excuses won't wash. She's adamant she wants to go and I feel like I shouldn't put it off because her friends will be doing it and she should experience it.

I don't know how I'm going to get through this. I'm trying to find somewhere where there will be families getting involved but I've got no idea where to go. This is by far one of the most stressful things ever.. How appropriate on Halloween I'm terrified! But for all the wrong reasons 😢

Hello Evaluna: Yes, I can see how knocking on strangers' doors could be nerve wracking. I did it as a kid many, many years ago. But I wouldn't do it now for anything! The other problem today is: who knows what's being given out? I think if I had a child today, I'd try to find some type of Halloween activity for the child to attend. I know, in our area, there are such things at places like: shopping malls, zoos, & churches. Some private families even throw parties for the kids in the neighborhoods. I do hope you can locate some alternative Halloween activities the two of you can attend. Best wishes...

All you have to do is stay like 6 feet behind her while she goes up and knocks on the doors. You wont have to talk to anyone. My parents always stayed on the sidewalk while I walked up to the doors and knocked and said trick or treat, they didn't have to do anything except watch me. She should experience it. She's 6 so she will get tired VERY easily, probably in an hour or less. Just knock on 30 houses, stay on the sidewalk, watch her do it, and then go back home. You don't even have to follow any groups of people if you don't want to.
