I have an almost constant feeling of anxiousness, I don't know why.(it came as a "bonus" with the gift of depression). But I will also have the occasional bursts of, what feel like to me, to be adrenaline.
I have found that dyphenhydramine works better to alleviate these symptoms than buspirone or alprozolam, which did absolutely nothing for me. I discovered this by chance one evening when I tried the ibuprophen/dyphenhydramine combo for pain. I felt better, both physically and mentally. I was wondering if anyone else had tried this and found the same... I don't know why it works, or how it works, but it works. It also makes me sleepy, but given a choice between the two, I will choose sleepy any day. (I didn't know where to put this post, sorry if it's misplaced.) That's Benadryl right? When I had akathisia from a medication I was on, my mom suggested Benadryl and it calmed me right down. I use Klonopin as needed for anxiety and panic now but if Benadryl helps you by all means use it if your doctor is okay with it.

Yup. Dyphenhydramine works like a charm for acute anxiety. The doctor prescribed hydroxyzine for my wife as opposed to Xanax. I too have generalize anxiety disorder comorbid with my major depressive disorder. The doctor gave me buspirone and that helps take the edge away most of the time, but when I have an acute anxiety attack I grab a Benadryl.
