Hi,

I have bad anxiety ( Panic attacks, PTSD and Agrophobia) I also have depression.

I take other meds for depression, but wondering what you folks are prescribed for Anxiety and/ or Panic Attacks. DO they work well for you?

I take Klonopin daily thru out the day and before bed ( if I can sleep)

Thanks
PNW1

I was prescribed Klonopin (I take generic, Clonazepam) and have Alprazolam for break through attacks if the Clonazepam doesn't work. I was also taught breathing exercises to prevent some of the symptoms from occurring. I hope this helps you..

Thanks, I used to take Alprazolam, didn't work too well for me. I do try the breathing techniques, but I guess I have to still keep at it. No real relief yet.

I was taking Sertraline (Zoloft) for a few years. Worked well for me except I felt like my thoughts were clouded most of the time. I was also taking Alprazolam (Xanax) when my anxiety was really bad.

I was taking alprazolam (xanax) up to 4 times per day. I've recently switched to Seroquel (for bipolar disorder) and now only take Xanax as needed - usually just once a day. Seroquel really, really helped my anxiety, and I've cut my Xanax use considerably.

I was also taking propranolol for my shaky hands. Worked well but gave me dry mouth.

I take klonopin, too. I was taking it three times a day but now I'm on an as needed basis. It takes a little longer to take affect than zanax but works well for me.

My pdoc is trying to find the right combo of meds for me-I have been taking propranolol 10mg twice daily (& wow it does make your mouth dry), Prozac 30mg daily, Depakote 250mg twice daily (that increases tomorrow) & ambien 5mg at bedtime. I also do meditation & breathing exercises-I have taken Ativan prn a few times-I still have trouble managing the anxiety at times but it much better than a few months ago.

I've tried Zoloft and Cipralex and have now been on Citalopram for about 4-5 ish years now.
It's actually helped me get out of my comfort zone a lot. I still get anxious a lot obviously but now I can actually leave the house and semi function in the real world lol

I've taken Xanax and Klonopin in the past. I'm currently on 10mg of Valium 3x per day. I would definitely benefit from taking Xanax prn but for some reason (state law?) the pharmacy won't allow me to be on 2 benzos at the same time.

1) Cymbalta: I have had depressive episodes, but the anxiety is my more chronic of the two diagnoses. Cymbalta has worked on both conditions

2) Seasonique: Birth control pill. My mood symptoms were going through the roof before/during my periods. This keeps my hormones more stable, and has been beneficial

3) Propranolol: 10-20 mg as needed. I take it for adrenaline surges/physical anxiety. Usually only take it once a month or so.

4) Ativan:0.5 mg. as needed. I take it on average once a week

5) Fish oil supplement: I take 5 triple strength Sam's Club capsules a day usually. It helps with my mental focus and clarity at work and improves my effectiveness in therapy.

Citalopram has worked on both depression and anxiety for me, but this was probably luck. Quacks here try to prescribe citalopram in the first instance apparently because it is cheap and difficult to harm yourself with. I am not complaining though.

I take 5mg of Lexapro. However, my anxiety still surfaces daily. It's a fight. I could up the dosage but I also don't want to feel like a zombie again. sigh.

I am diagnosed bipolar, GAD & PTSD. Right now I am on a good med mix, lamictal (mood stabilizer), Wellbutrin, and atenolol for blood pressure (also helps with anxiety) the mood stabilizer has made a huge difference in my anxiety levels. Normally bipolar and depression meds don't mix, but Wellbutrin is a little different and it has a lot of benefits for me. I take klonopin as needed, usually once a day or less. I wish I didn't have to, benzos scare me.. I hope that this helps, the atenolol might be something to try.

??? What makes prescribing citalopram the act of a quack?

Quack is a disrespectful (in a humorous way) name for a medical practitioner - apologies for any confusion or offence. Two nations divided by a common language and all that.

As a recovering addict, I hesitate to take anything, but if I'm feeling really anxious, I take some Valerian root extract...it's also is supposed to help as a sleep aid. I assume that anything I take will have a placebo effect, since the anxiety is all self-produced anyway.
