I have a fear of being in a dark room that has mirrors in it. I don't understand why because I know where it started. I was at camp when I was eight. That is all I can say about it without freaking myself out.
Here's my question. I recently started watching Supernatural because my son likes it and I want to be able to talk about it with him. Luckily when Netflix reached season 1 episode 5 it didn't automatically play it so I had to see what it was called. It is the reason I'm afraid. Now I am wondering if I should watch it because I know that they will resolve the problem, but I worry that watching it may mess me up more. Should I watch it or skip it?

Hello PondLife,
Just want to say about your first paragraph, what happens to us as children tends to have a huge effect whether it seems in adult eyes to be less so, to a child it would be huge. I hope you get to talk through this one with a therapist sometime. As for your question, you are aware that this is a trigger but if you don't watch it then that 'story' will not be resolved and you'll be left thinking up all sorts of your own endings. I think, if you can make sure you are well- grounded in the 'here and now,' that is to say - make sure you are totally aware that this is a story you are watching on TV, yes. Make yourself comfortable with company and leave the room and make a cup of coffee or tea etc if you feel uneasy. Then you can discuss the 'story' you watched with your son. ![]()

As pegasus said, it may be worth watching it so you know how the episode ends or you could be thinking and wondering about it unnecessarily. Having someone with you would probably help.
If you can't bring yourself to watch it though, perhaps you could read a synopsis of the episode and talk about it with your son if he's seen it. Maybe you'd feel more comfortable watching if you knew what to expect? That is, if you don't mind spoilers ![]() If you can one day, it would be good to talk about your childhood experience to someone. Often the problems we resist and fail to bring attention to are not as big as we think they are ![]()
