I'm supposed to go groom a dog in 40 minutes, but I'm starting to panic. :-( I don't know what to do. The panic was set off by the thought of going to the welfare office tomorrow. Last time I went there, I had a massive panic attack followed by a (short) psychotic episode. I'm so terrified it will happen again.

I feel AWFUL.

Hi gloamingone

I am sorry that you are feeling unsettled.

Deep, slow breathing.

Focus all your mind and attention on the dog that you will be grooming, you're good at this and you can do this.

Thank you. :-( I ended up crying hysterically and rescheduling the appointment. Luckily my clients are very understanding.

I just feel like such a failure. No idea how I'm going to make it through the intense stress of the welfare office tomorrow. It just sucks that I even find THAT incredibly difficult, much less working!

Hi gloaming sorry about the panic attack-sometimes I've found that I just have to give in to it to get that release. One thing that has worked well for me the last couple of months is to walk & shake it off-I walk & shake my lower arms & hands-it sounds pretty stupid but it has kept me from crossing over into hyperventilation. Take care & hope the rest of your day is better

It'll be ok! I had my first day back at work today and was terrified, because I just had the worst panic attack of my life at work (so bad, I went to the ER multiple times thinking I'd had a stroke or heart attack), but I made it through the day. It can be super tough, but you can't let panic run your life. I almost let it run mine again.

Aww I'm sorry you're going through that, I can really relate.
It helps to change the negative thoughts into positive ones. We are really at the mercy of our thoughts sometimes but luckily they can be changed.
You need to find reasons to look forward to what you're about to do. As humans, if we don't want to do something, we will have an uphill battle trying to do it no matter what it is. We are motivated creatures, we run away from things we dislike (for survival) and we run towards things we do like (for survival).

You can actually look forward to meeting that dog that you're going to groom, and just focus on that and nothing else. Every time a negative thought enters your mind, replace it with a positive thought that you can look forward to. When an insecure thought comes up, replace it with the thought that you are doing a service for others who need it. Flip every thought you have around until it makes you feel better, because negative thoughts aren't more true than positive thoughts. Both thoughts are true, it depends on how you want to feel, and which thoughts feel better to you.

I panicked again. I was hyperventilating and crying hysterically. And my boyfriend started yelling at me. Obscenities. I told him to stop and leave me alone but he wouldn't. I was terrified (victim of past abuse). He finally left, slamming the door. I'm so scared. I don't know what to do.
