This morning, I got up early, did some work on my computer, printed out some documents and got my files ready for an 8:30 meeting, and went outside to wait for my cab. I stood there (very cold and impatient) waiting for the cab. After 15 minutes I was getting angry about the long wait, but then after 25 minutes I suddenly had a moment of clarity and realized I hadn't actually CALLED a cab!

It freaked me out. I'm used to being slightly spaced out sometimes. Little things slip my mind and I occasionally do ditzy things like wearing my dress inside-out or my underwear sideways. I have always been like that to a certain extent. (My nickname in junior high was "space biscuit" and friends tease me about having "blonde moments.") Since I recovered from agoraphobia 2 years ago, my short-term memory hasn't been as reliable as it used to be, though, so I write a lot of reminders and to-do lists for myself.

Spending 25 minutes waiting for a cab I hadn't even called is something I have never done before, though. I ended up being 30 minutes late for the meeting. Could this be because of anxiety (going through a very busy time at work), or a side-effect of Lexapro (I've been on it for about 2 months), or because I'm getting older (but I'm only 37)? Has anyone else experienced bizarre space-outs like this? What do you attribute them to? This worries me. Now I'm afraid I'm going to forget something REALLY important.

I've been forgetting a lot of things too and I'm not on any meds and I'm not particularly anxious about anything. I'm getting older, too. I think it's that.
It sounds to me you were probably rushing and so preoccupied that it slipped your mind.

It's hard to say - I have had conversations with people that they will remember with great clarity and I will have no recollection.

Watching movies with me is kind of fun as I don't remember all the parts so its exciting every time.

I would say that it's getting worse - could be meds, could be aging, could be that I'm somewhere in my own place and not really paying attention - kind of on auto pilot

I did that exact same thing a couple years ago. I think I ended up waiting about half an hour, before realizing, and was going to call them and say "where are you" but as she picked up the phone it dawned on me that I hadn't even called them yet!! Arg.

(btw I was 16, and at the time didn't have any issues, I just didn't do it!)

If you really want to hear of a bizarre space-out, I have one Spacing out... forgetting things Sometimes I'm actually so pre-occupied with my own thoughts, that when I'm trying to go to the restroom, I can't remember whether I've already gone or not!

So I totally feel for you. Don't beat yourself up over it, being spaced-out happens. For me, it happens because I have too much anxiety that I can't concentrate on what I'm doing.

Thanks for all the responses. ((((Hugs)))) to all of you. It's good to know I'm not the only space biscuit. Spacing out... forgetting things

Things have been incredibly busy at work lately and I found out that my colleagues are feeling the stress in a big way too. My boss actually said to me the other day, "I think I'm going to have a breakdown." So, it's not just me. I think I've been worn out and overtired too. Today's a holiday, so I didn't have to set my alarm this morning. I actually slept for 14 hours! So, I guess my mind and body were in serious need of some rest.

Oh no, the first signs of a delusional disorder. Quick, we need to grab the big white butterfly net and catch her!!!! Spacing out... forgetting things

You know what, Juliana? I wouldn't even worry about it. How many thoughts go through our mind AT THE SAME TIME during the course of a day? It's amazing we're able to function as rational humans at all....not all just sitting comatose in our livingrooms.

Have you ever gone outside and looked down JUST to make sure you have your pants on?? We're such dysfunctional earthly critters that somehow manage to keep reproducing!! Spacing out... forgetting things

And having To-Do Lists is a great idea. Just make sure you check off "Call the Cab" when you've actually done it. LOL.

God bless,
Sandy

LOL! I DO sometimes look down and make sure I have pants on. Fortunately, I haven't gone out pantsless... yet. I've done the backwards and inside-out clothes thing many times, though.

I do to-do lists at work, but I'm such a disorganized mess at home, it's a wonder I get out the door at all in the morning. If I wrote a to-do list at home, I would misplace it or forget to look at it.

I keep meaning to get one of those pill organizers for myself so I can keep track of my medication... keep forgetting though. So, I have all the days of the week written in pencil on my box of Lexapro, and I cross off each day after I take my pill.

ye i know how you feel. i've once sat for half an hour waiting on someone to reply to a text, so i checked my sent messeges folder and i hadn't even sent the message!
i also space out in the middle of a conversation
and forget what i'm saying mid-sentence
i've forgotten what i'm playin on guitar mid-song
i forget to go to the toilet, rememberin when my bladder statrs to hurt like hell
and i've once forgotten what i was supposed to be doing in maths 3 times in the space f 2 minutes and we were only supposed to be copying off of the board
and i've no idea what causes it all
and i've been like that most of my life
and i havn't gone COMPLETELY insane so i'm sure it's nothing to worry about Spacing out... forgetting things

Hi Steph,

Don't you hate that? I'll be talking to someone and then I'll forget TOTALLY what I was saying. Either my mind starts wandering onto something else that I had mentioned in my little conversation, or I get distracted when someone makes a reply to what I'm saying. Then it's back to me to continue with my story, and..........ummmm.......what had I just been saying? It starts out as a normal conversation, and then I end up looking like I only have half a brain! Spacing out... forgetting things

I think we all do that. There are just too many distractions and bombardments upon our senses. We all get a little corn-fused! Spacing out... forgetting things

God bless,
Sandy

yes, it's extrememly annoying, and it used to annoy my friends, which made it even more annoying. but they're used to it now. they'll either shout my name really loud or say something stupid, e.g jade saying "lets roll around in grass fertiliser and sprout grass from our heads" and i was just like "what the *****?" lol
