What is the best, most proven way to combat bad thoughts? Don't say ignore them, because when I do, it makes things worse for me.

Depending on what the thoughts are, one possibility is to challenge them-are they really true? You have to work on it but it really does help.

Acknowledging them works. Then you can probe why you are having those thoughts and what you can do to change your focus or find a resolution.

How about accepting your thoughts as simply that--thoughts. They pop up, they move on, another one takes it's place, etc, etc. They are not truths written in stone, they are not forever, just a temporary annoyance. They can't hurt us if we deflate their power and importance. This doesn't include things like psychotic episodes, which are usually chemical in nature and need a chemical treatment.

I dunno. Like make a probability list of the scenarios happening?

I have been trying for months. But they still hassle me.

They have been more than temporary.

I've learned a visualization where I change the thought into a piece of paper with the thought on it and then I visualize burning it completely. I think often of bad things happening, so I put them on a movie film (ok, a little old fashioned) then I visualize pouring water over it until it disolves completely. With practice I am able to do them pretty quickly anywhere I find myself. Maybe thes might help.

favorite quote from the movie, "ET"
when Elliot tells his friends in the park what they have to do to save ET from the scientists, Greg asks, "Why doesn't he (ET) just beam up?" to which Elliot replies, "This is REALITY, Greg!"

Reassure yourself. Are these bad things really going to happen/exist? Probably not.
Btw I'm in a bit of a mild attack right now so this thread is helping me calm down.
Best wishes,
Tyler
