Hi guys,
I haven't been a regular poster here, so I guess I'm kind of still new, so bear with me.
My anxiety has been at an all time high lately, and I'm kind of at my whit's end.
I'm thinking about going to an anxiety support group meeting tonight and I was just wondering if people found this helpful?
I'm not expecting this to solve my problems, of course, but I do feel that I desperately need to be around people who understand what I'm going through. Does that, in any way, help or comfort any of you, support groups, I mean?
I've never been to any kind of group therapy before, but I've got to do what I can because my situation is getting worse.

you may find it to be very beneficial. just knowing that you are not alone and that others suffer with it to can be a great comfort. you may also learn new ways to cope. go and check it out and let us know how it goes....best of luck!

I agree with recluse. Just being around people who know and understand is usually beneficial. I have been to a support group setting before but it was not an on going thing...it was an 8 week program. I have been looking in my area for an anxiety support group to join. I would give it a try but you should go more than 2 times just because being newing you usually are uncomfortable.....Let us know if you go and it helped....
Take care
Snow

I didn't go because I was in such a state that I fell sound asleep from exhaustion. I do think I'm going to give it a try, though. It's really hard to leave the house when I'm in such a state of anxiety unless it's absolutely necessary, and then, it is a living hell. When I'm feeling Ok, I don't want to think about my anxiety problems. I want to believe it was just a phase and it will not happen again, but I know that it will, so I'm really going to try to go regardless. I do think it will help to be around others with similar problems because I've been so isolated since it's very hard for me to pretend I'm OK. I'm starting to feel a bit better. I hope the trend continues.

I guess I'd have trouble with wishing I knew someone from the group before I went to the group :-) Do you know the leader or anything? I often drag friends to stuff when I have to go the first time, both to make sure I go and to have a bit of a feeling of "safety"/support if I don't like it or it doesn't go well, etc.
