Hello. I have a friend who most likely has panic disorder along with GAD, but won't seek help for it. I was wondering for people with panic disorder what it feels like? I do have SAD with panic attack specifier and GAD (SAD as in social anxiety) so I know panic attacks, but she says she gets about 9-10 of the panic attack criteria while I only get 4-5 and I know I feel bad after mine. So I was wondering how it feels to get a panic attack unexpectedly and worry about getting another one randomly? I just want to understand her a bit and to try to give as much support as I can. Thanks.

As I said I do get panic attacks, just mild ones. I understand them.

I personally have never seen my friend get a panic attack. She has seen me several times though because I get them frequently from social anxiety.

That sounds much worse than mine. Thanks for your help.

When I panic it can last 20-30 minutes. Like a half hour panic attack that I can't get myself out of. That's why I have Ativan PRN.

Wow. As I said, my friend won't go see a t or pdoc for this so she isn't taking medication to help ease her panic attacks and worrying.

Would your panic attacks be on the more severe side or mild? Just wondering? Thanks

Panic disorder stinks. I hate it and have learned to live with it. It feels horrible but won't kill you.

They fluctuate, but are usually pretty severe. I have learned to know when I'm anxious vs when I'm about to panic. When I start to feel the panic, it's Ativan time. I've actually passed out a few times. Your friend should at least look into some therapy to help.

I know panic attacks stinks in general. I can't imagine panic disorder. That's good you have been able to live with it though What does it feel like to have panic disorder?. I know panic attacks don't kill you. I do experience them on a mild(er) scale, but they are quite frequent and are still scary.

How much do you worry about getting a panic attack? Thanks for the response.

Sorry to hear that What does it feel like to have panic disorder?. At least you know the difference between panic and anxiety. I am still on the fence about that in terms of my social anxiety.

Weird that you mention that. My friend randomly passes out at times. Even when she doesn't have a panic attack.

She won't because she doesn't want her family to think she's messed up because of a label. Sucks, but. I can't do anything about that. Believe me, I have tried.

Thanks for the response.

I started having Panic Attacks 2 years ago, but I didn't know I was having them! I would pass out on the streets, start drawling in class, and start crying in exciting moments! I talked to my therapist about it and she told me that it was all because of my anxiety! But a couple months later I had my first panic attack, at my english class, and my teacher took me to the hospital, because I couldn't breath! When I got there, they did nothing! I waited for 6 hours and then a doctor came into my room to ask me if my parents have ever hurt me! So i lied, because my parent were just in the other room, and he smiled at me, and left! He said I could go home! That was probably one of the worst days of my life! If you want to help your friend, give him attention! Don't pretend that what he is having is just a small issue! Talk to him! Help him calm down by holding his hand and distracting him! Make sure he knows that every thing is going to be ok! And if he ever decide to seek for help, don't go to a doctor! Go to a therapist!
I hope that was helpful!
Ps. I'm sorry for my english! I'm not from here.

It's fine. But wow. You have passed out because of a panic attack? That must suck. I have never passed out because of one.

I feel like if teachers were more educated on mental health that they would know what to do instead of the most severe case unless that is what you wanted, then that's your decision and not the teacher's. Just my opinion though.

Why would the doctor ask if your parents have ever hurt you? Did they think it was a cause? How did they think of that just because you weren't breathing because of a panic attack?

It's a her, but yep. I have never seen her go through a panic attack before, but she has seen me several times. I was just wondering the thought process of panic disorder and what other people experience. Maybe then I could help her a bit.

And I know about the doctor to therapist or pdoc or psychologist thing. I told my doc and she referred me to my pdoc.

It was helpful, thanks.

Grammar was fine. Don't worry about it .

Ugh. My first scary panic panic attack, I was 15, I almost passed out, and my ex took me to the er. They just left me on a bed and finally said it was a panic attack and I could go home. It sucked. I second dolphin. The er is either unwilling or unable to do much good.

I try not to worry too much. I put them in their little box in the back of my head.

That sucks. I would think so because they are really uneducated on this matter.

On the other note, my friend seems to be able to put her thoughts at the back of her mind or she said she is a mess. She said she doesn't act anxious around me because I am very anxious already and it might me worse. It's nice of her, but I want her to get the help she needs and by hiding it won't help her in the long run I think.

Do you agree with me on that?
Thanks for this!
