I'm supposed to start zoloft again for severe anxiety. I am so nervous. I have tried a lot of meds that haven't worked but I never was able to give them enough of a chance because of my medication fears. The last time I was on zoloft for 2 weeks I developed OCD, something I never had before zoloft. But after discontinuing the zoloft it stuck around. I am so afraid of side effects and whenever I start a med I get extreme agoraphobia. Idk what to do.

hi gravity,
tell your doctor not to put you on Zoloft cuz of your ocd .I was on Zoloft for a long time it cause me to gain too much weight . my weight went up to 238 # . I stopped it cold turkey cuz my old psychiatrist jacked it up to 275 mgs . ask your doctor to put you on paxil or Cymbalta with vistrail for your anxiety . also talk your therapist about it too. I would never go back on Zoloft . its not worth going back on it . try some coping skills too . when you go on the meds give it two to four weeks for your body to adjust and then four to six weeks for the therapeutic effects to kick in . I been on meds before and it takes time for your body to adjust to it . Diagnosis: Anxiety and depression meds : Cymbalta 60 mgs at night Vistrail 2 25 mgs daily for anxiety prn 50 mgs at night for insomnia with an additional 25 mgs =75 mgs at night for insomnia when up past 1:00 in the morning

You have to give meds more than a 2 week trial. Any psychiatric drug can have temporary side effects at first, but tend to go away after your body gets used to them. Zoloft can cause increased anxiety, but it will go away after a few days. You need to take it a month to six weeks to really know how it affects you. Please don't give up before you know if you can really benefit or not. Don't be shy to tell your doc if it doesn't work, but bear in mind there is no perfect medicine. Recovery is a long slow process and you will have ups and downs. Hang in there friend!
