My depression has taken a turn for the worse. I have a lot of life stress, and no support. I am just trying to maintain sanity for one hour at a time because the stress seems to be making me feel confused. Suggestions welcomed. Do you think the confusion and fear will pass? What I mean is...I have coped in the past so will I cope now? How do I know I am coping? I need some kind of feedback but I have no friends at all at this time due to isolating. I am also not working at this time. I absolutely must break out of this isolation.
Please leave a comment. Thanks.

Yes, you did it before and you can do it again. It's always hard to believe it can get better. You just have to hang in and fight.

Thank you! I needed to hear a voice out of the darkness, and yours was loud and clear and beautiful. Thank you. You cannot imagine what a comfort this is. I will never forget your kindness.

Find a CBT Mood Log on the internet. It may be helpful to strategize how to cope with your immediate situation.

The hardest thing to know is that how we feel isn't permanent but just a passing state. I personally have found Buddhist philosophies helpful to understanding that but a therapy version of this is called acceptance and commitment therapy or ACT. One useful book is called the happiness trap. Regardless of what you try, do something, CBT worksheet, ACT, stalk of broccoli around the neck. It will help.

How very sweet of you to follow up!
![]() I am doing a 100% better, thank you. The problem was I contracted a really severe cold, and was in a lot of pain. (My head.) It also scared me that I had reached such isolation that there wasn't one person I could call. So I called Psych Central! But the experience served as a warning. TOO ISOLATED. I am fighting to come out of an 18 month depression. (No meds) The head cold and some other stuff set me back. But now I am feeling optimistic and tonight am going to make a healthy dinner of vegan pasta, and count my blessings. I love your avatar.

I really like what you said about "regardless of what you try, do something." That is so true!!! No matter how difficult something may seem just a little step in the right direction will be helpful and proactive and it sounds like you are on the right track. It sounds like the other literature that you have been reading has been very helpful too! Best of luck and keep trying!

I think the depression increased because I had a very bad cold and was isolated. This past month I started walking, and meditating, and feel better.
