I'm not quite sure if this is the right place to post this, feel free to move it if not.
I've been very anxious for a long time (nearly constant for the past 6 months). Last week I had a first meeting with a pdoc, and as I hoped he gave me a prescription to deal with my anxiety. He gave me clonazapam, .5mg twice a day. I've been taking it for just under a week now. The first couple times I took it I really felt a difference. Once the pill kicked in I felt relaxed for the first time ever. I even felt happy that first night. Over the weekend though I've been having some strange occurances. I went grocery shopping one day, which is typically a pretty anxiety-inducing experience for me, and I figured I would be ok since I had taken one of my pills a couple hours before we left. While there, however, I started feeling anxious, and eventually started having a panic attack. This was the worst panic attack I think I've ever had (other than the one I had a couple days before that). I was completely petrified, I couldn't even make decisions. Until we finished shopping, my boyfriend had to make all the rest of the decisions at the store. I just couldn't handle it. Is this some kind of rebound anxiety now that I'm on meds, that's worse if I don't take them? Or am I just seeing the difference between anxious and "normal" finally? I had the same experience about 3 seperate times over the weekend, and it's scaring me. |

Hello PsychNitrous: Nervousness & agitation are listed as potential side effects for this medication. I was on it for a while. I don't recall having any problems with it myself. But everyone is different. Checking back with your pdoc may be the best course of action.

I find if I take my PRN on a regular basis it loses its effectiveness. Some take it every day to avoid attacks but I wait till I feel the anxiety before I take it. So I'm taking it maybe 2 times a wk and it gives my tolerance a chance to go back down so I can get that calm effect you described.

I took Xanax, klonopin, lorazepam for years and eventually all it did was make my anxiety worse and everything worse as well. Coming off of these drugs is absolute hell, even if taken as prescribed.
