I was "minding my own business" today and out of thee blue.. a panic attack strikes.. I'm driving.. feel like I'm dying.. can't breathe.. pulled over.. but it just came out of the blue,

why would that happen?

I have many panic attacks, alot are in my sleep - triggered by some nightmare that I'm having.. then I wake up in a full blown attack..

But this one "hit me like a ton of bricks"

I can't answer the question as to why but I can say that it has happened to me too. Just out of no where they hit. I too seem to have most of my panic attacks at night but sometimes I will have one during the day and I hate it when it happens when I am driving. I had one so bad one time I had to go to the hospital but that has only happened once thank God. I hope you feel better and what makes panic attacks so bad is there is NO explination as to why and where we have them. That's what makes them so scarey...at least for me. Take care and hope you feel better soon.

I've had panic attacks for no real reason, too. I think of them like seizures. There may be things that trigger them, but sometimes, they just happen. And I think of them as seizures not just for that reason, but because they just sort of take over your body. Yes, sometimes you can prevent them and calm yourself down, but I tried to come up with something to try to explain them to people who don't understand, and seizures, being physical attacks generally, are more accepted in society than panic attacks. Seizures have some similarities, and that's what I've used. Still doesn't seem to make people understand or accept, though. *Sigh!* major panic attack today..

I hate when those happen like that. I'm sorry you had to go through it. I'm glad you were able to pull over and wait it out until you could drive again.

Hello,

First time I have heard someone use the term seizures with panic attacks. I do have panic attacks so severe that they become seizures, no one knows why but it could be my breathing goes off. I have not been able to drive for ten years and took tegretol but now I am on Klonopin for seizure and anxiety. Good Luck! I've had these for years. The seizures are better but wow, the panic attacks are horrible.
