Hello All

Quick history. Im 35, work in IT, married one child.

I used to be really happy go lucky type and then I met the missus ( no really!). This is the earliest I recall OCD, say 7 years ago. She was really bad at locking doors at night and so I`d check them repeatedly. I remember checking the back door for about 20 minutes one night.

Anyway I didnt think much of it until I read an internet article which said "have you ever thought about driving on the other side of the road just to see what happens" and I had. I then started reading about OCD and realised I had some symptoms

2 years ago my son was born and in the last 9 months I have had disturbing images of me hurting him. I would never act on them as I love him so much, but I have them from time to time (say once every two weeks). My concern is that I wont do anything conciously but one night whilst asleep I`ll get up etc...

Anyway as an aside I also suffer from classic migraine with aura, ie a migraine with really bad visual problems. I tried some prescription medication but the best thing for me is 2 ibuprofen and away it goes after 30 minutes. I can still function for the rest of the day and its nowhere near as bad as some peoples.

But I`ve noticed this gives me stomach problems, bloating, wind, general feeling of lethargy. And then thats when my OCD starts. I cant tell if its just feeling generally "down" that starts it or whether it is physically something the ibuprofen does. I didnt know if anyone else found the same ?

Once in a while I have a similar thought about one of my cats. Today it really occurred to me that that is just a reaction to all the stress and fear which characterizes a lot of my life and has since childhood -- and I am wanting to strike back at something.

I have migraine aura without the headache. It really does seem to be brought on by stress.

Again, my guess would be that it's brought on by an increase of stress.

I had those kinds of thoughts from childhood, of hurting someone I loved, and realized they were just OCD. I knew I'd never do that, and these were thoughts, not urges, and I learned to ignore them. They hardly ever bother me, and never last long now, for years. I doubt it would cause you to do anything in your sleep.

I agree, stress has a lot to do with everything going on with you that you mentioned above. I get stress headaches, and I have irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), which creates a vicious cycle: I get stressed OR the IBS starts, and then one causes the other, and it keeps going on like that. I often end up taking Imodium, to help for at least a little while.
