I am always anxious, but have been more anxious and stressed than usual lately. As I get into the day, and as the day goes on, I find I have a tight feeling in my throat, as if there is something around my neck, pressing into my throat. The sensation is so uncomfortable and annoying. Has anyone else here with anxiety experienced this and, if so, what (if anything) helped to relieve it?

I am seeing my pdoc on Monday and will tell him, but since no meds have worked to alleviate my anxiety I don't know what he'll do.

I havent noticed the throat. Usually my whole body feels like its squeezing me.

Google for chakras. Im not sure what exactly are they, but their effects are definitely felt, like throat. And there are some alternative ways to manage them.

I hope your pdoc appointment goes well and you can get some relief. If not, maybe you can make a list of coping techniques to carry around for when you feel this way. Best wishes.

I have quite bad social anxiety - but it varies. I used to have to give talks at work and when I did them my throat would lock up like you describe - I could barely speak. It was so embarassing. I hate public speaking.

I also used to get it when I was much younger on places like the train. If I felt particularly anxious or self-conscious I would start to constantly swallow. The more I thought about it the worse it would become.

It rarely happens now but if I'm I'm feeling very vulnerable I can still sense it there in the background - a horrible feeling.

Thank you all, very much.

Guiness, I have been on Klonopin for over 20 years. Benzos no longer have any effect on me. But thanks, anyway.

My chest would tighten when it's starting. I could end up with a migraine if it's really bad.

Hope the pdoc helped you.

My first psychiatrist yes a real one that talked to me for an hour helped me with this by making a progressive muscle relaxation tape. He talked me through it noticing the difference between tense and relaxed muscles. Then added in some other things after you go through the muscle groups. It has helped me. I saw some progressive muscle relaxation things on youtube. I hope you feel better.

Zyprexa has calmed my anxiety quite a bit. I am on a mega dose though.I found it helped my anxiety at a smaller dose also, just not as much.

I'm on latuda and propranolol the combination has worked well for my anxiety. When I do get break though anxiety it's mostly in my intestines and chest.

Thanks, nammu. Proponolol didn't really help my anxiety. Latuda did help me in many ways and I was on it for over a year. But I developed such a severe tremor (jaw, hands, legs) that my pdoc was concerned about tardive dyskenesia, so I had to stop the Latuda.

I'm glad the meds are helping you.
