My husband is 55, weighs a lot, has a colostomy, and lately- he's had bad anxiety, panic attacks, and feelings where he can't breathe. His Internist put him on Buspar, but I don't think it's working.

He hardly ever sleeps in our bed anymore. When he does, he has to have the door open. This would be fine except I like the bedroom dark, and quiet when I go to sleep. I just started back to work and I work from 12pm-9pm. I don't fall asleep until about 2am.

The problem is: he will not stay out in the living room (his domain) during the day, watch TV, play on the computer or anything unless either me or our son are right there with him. Yesterday, he felt like he couldn't breathe and went to the ER. Basically, they told him nothing was wrong with him. I couldn't take him to the ER because I have a seizure disorder, hadn't slept well the past couple days, and had a banging headache. He wouldn't take an ambulance because he doesn't like being strapped down. So, he called his brother from over 55 mi away to take him to the ER.

Well, today- he doesn't want to be in the living room unless our son is out there. This insanity has to stop. He did try to call a local mental health facility but was told because he doesn't have Medicaid, to go to the ER, which he did and got nowhere.

Our son isn't always going to be here and I can't always watch him. Please help- I need ideas!!

Is his internist willing to prescribe benzos(Xanax, Valium or klonopin)? Buspar didn't help me either and I've heard this from many others. Has he ever been evaluated by a psychiatrist? That might be worth looking into.
Thanks for this!

I agree with Jennifer. Your husband needs to be evaluated by a psychiatrist.
