What helps you with anxiety that doesn't involve medication? I have medication and an appointment w a therapist, but it is two weeks away

Hi Key tones ,

Although I am on meds , I still find this lady very helpful , if you have a Smart TV or even a cell phone with apps or tablet you can use it no ASMR just clear female voice help.

I have some apps on my phone that help: Mindshift, Virtual Hopebox and particularly Calm.
Thanks for this!

what helps me is thinking about what I might do after the event that's making me anxious.

usually it helps me realise that what ever it is will end, and then i can start planning some nice treats for myself.

so that's what I do

also take things slow and at my pace

TV

distracting games (I quite enjoy word games and trivia)

my tranquility cd

I like to turn my music up loud when I am anxious.

the louder it is, them ore I can get lost in it, and the more it drowns out anxious thoughts

(i've been trying this with depression/ bad thoughts, voices, etc), but it only really works with anxiety
Thanks for this!

Exercise is the thing that helps me the most. I also try to meditate and use this site: https://app.stopbreathethink.org/

It's 100% free (with options to purchase additional meditations if you like). It keeps track of how long you've meditated and you can earn various virtual stickers along the way, which gives a bit of extra incentive.

I use lavender essential oil. I have a roll-on bottle I made so I can apply it diluted to my temples, wrists, and beneath my nose. I have a diffuser too which fills the room with the odour. I could really use this right now as I am pretty wound up but I have it all packed for the move.

Kava kava root, valerian root, 5-htp as far as supplements go. I also love candles, warmers, insense, any air freshener. Apple cinnamon, lavender or lilac is my fav and helps me relax.

Eating a low calorie diet
exercising
Chamomile
Melatonin (I think it’s a herb instead of a med?)
Stress relief soap
Raman noodles. It really does for some reason. It helps me relax and puts me in a good mood. There is just something about a hot bowl of ramen that makes me feel better.

I actually respond better to these things then psych meds.
Thanks for this!

I have used lavender oil and eucalyptus oil with good results. The aromatherapy I think works because it takes your mind away from the anxious thoughts while you smell the smells. I was very agoraphobic and Ii put lavender oil on a scarf and around my neck. When I tried to venture out, I took sniffs of the scarf to remind me to not be anxious. it helped a lot to keep me grounded. Pick a scent you really like and try it. It can't hurt.

Epsom salt and lavender essential oil as a bath. Call me crazy but it seems to be working for me only after a few days trying. The magnesium in the epsom salt is suppose to help with anxiety.
