Not really sure if this is anxiety or what it is. If it is anxiety its a diff type than I have ever had. Anyway, how does one relax their mind when all it wants to do is think about stuff that makes no sense that you have never even thought of before .. and it doesn't even focus on one thing before it's onto the next. What do you do? This is new and I have no idea how to deal. Help if you can please.

Just my two cents, but hypomania in bipolar disorder immediately came to mind.

I hit send before I answered your question. Using techniques like mindfulness and laying quietly doing a deep breathing and muscle relaxation exercise can help.

I feel the same way all of the time.I aint no doctor but I wonder if you not only have anxities but depression.I have them both plus bipolar and a mood disorder.My mind is always thinking about bad things why not good stuff for a chance,I try laying down like closing my eyes then try to think of something that I love,for instance like for me I always invision myself walking along the beach swimming and fishing sometimes it takes me away from those bad thoughts I am having .I am anxious from the time I get up till I go to bed.Hope this helps u some

Are they worrying thoughts, like G.A.D.? Unpleasant thoughts, like intrusive thoughts? Completely random thoughts that have no emotional impact?

Any new stressors or changes that might account for it?

I'm just trying to get a sense here, although I suspect I won't know. Maybe someone else will.

Completely random with no connection - except that the fact I have so many of them so uncontrolled pisses me off and makes me want to either cry or smash something

This works with usual anxiety - I was diagnosed with that years ago and learned how to control it so the "usual"anxiety doesn't bother me anymore .. but this doesn't involve focusing on anything or thinking about anything triggering or in some other way being reminded of triggering things. The feeling of anxiety itself is triggered - but it is completely impossible to focus on anything bc my mind is literally going so fast it cannot hold onto any one thought to watch a movie, listen to a song, or otherwise. I'm not sure how to describe it - but sometimes I even don't understand what I'm supposed to be thinkinh about.

I was dx years ago with GAD, PTSD, BPD (borderline personality disorder not bipolar), and psychotic depression - I learned how to control them for the majority of the time and recognize when they were triggered the rest of the time. This is something completely new. Something I have absolutely no control of no matter how many of my relaxation exercises or coping techniques I use .. so it scares me and angers me.

I learned the muscle relaxation years ago .. it does not work for this. The grounding technique you showed me last night helped a bit which is better than nothing. ❤

That's actually what I wondered .. but I have never had anything near bipolar before and so it scares me.

Aww, thank you. You're always so considerate towards me. I simply meant that I am sorry to hear you are going through this.

Like I said, I don't know about it. Although I read somewhere that, even if the thoughts aren't worrisome or anxious themselves, it might still be due to anxiety. Maybe?

A name for it might help. A quick search for "racing thoughts" seems to turn up results related to a rapid stream of distressing, anxious thoughts. Which isn't the same as what you're experiencing. I know getting professional help is an issue for you.

But please don't hesitate to update here or PM me if you would like to talk.
