Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to get your thoughts on Effexor XR and ocd. I have been on it for about 4 months and while it does help anxiety, the ocd symptoms are still there. Is there any kind of med to maybe take along with the Effexor to help with the ocd? (of course the ocd causes a lot more anxiety) .
Just looking for other advice and maybe how you felt while taking Effexor XR. (I take 150 mg once a day)

Thanks for any ideas. Have a great day everyone.

Hi OcdPam! Ocd and Effexor XR

Welcome to PC! I can't answer your question as I don't suffer from OCD, but I think if you also posted this in the Drug Questions forum you may get some good responses there too!

Take good care....

Ocd and Effexor XR

I took Effexor XR along with Klonopin for my OCD symptoms for several years. The combination worked well for me until the Effexor stopped working. I then started taking Lexapro and Remeron, which have been working well until my doctor suggested reducing the Remeron. That had the effect of bringing on a recent bout with OCD symptoms. I ramped back up on the Remeron and have been fine since then. So, while I don't have any experience with Effexor by itself, for me a combination of medications has been the most effective.

Hi,
Thank you for your reply.
While Effexor XR does work well for me for anxiety it doesn't do enough to help the repetitve thinking and unwanted thoughts.
I will be seeing my doctor next month to talk to him about adding something else. I was taking Ativan but really he prescribed that for panic attacks which I haven't had in quite a while. I also didn't want to become addicted to it so went off of it. (That is a whole other story, lol. ) I had a bad reaction to Clonazepam a few years back so I unfortunately can't take that.
I guess it always takes a while to find just the right combination for each person. I will keep telling myself that. Ocd and Effexor XR
Thanks again. I appreciate any information.
