I just cancelled my dentist appointment that was supposed to be 3:00-4:30. It has started sleeting very slightly :-) here (1:00) and is supposed to get worse as the day progresses and last Thursday I got caught in sudden freezing stuff and was sliding around in my 4 wheel drive Explorer. But they were so kind at the dentist's wanting to know what was happening and relaying the information (like I have a clue and am not making half of it up?) to the others. They work late on Tuesdays apparently.
I am not in the mood for an hour and a half dentist appointment today and have also been slightly worried all morning about the weather and don't know which is uppermost. I feel like it's a bad idea not to go just because I don't feel like it and like I'm using the weather as an excuse. One weather report says only possible "showers" until 7:00 and another says 100% sleet and freezing rain, 1:00-4:00 and then things get worse. If nothing much happens with this stuff before 4:30 when I would have gotten out, I'm really going to feel bad about myself.

Perna, don't be so hard on yourself. "I don't feel like it so I'm going to reschedule" is perfectly acceptable. Especially if you really do make a new appointment.
And yeah, maybe you are using the weather as an excuse. So what? Sometimes excuses are a godsend. I say, screw the dentist. ![]() Cyran0

Oh Perna.....I hear what you are saying....been there done that.
I would say let it be....reschedule the appointment and give it no more thought. For some reason or another you are having an issue with it, whether it be the appointment itself or the weather or the combination of the two...who cares??? Why attempt something that may be dangerous if the weather turns bad? Sit back, relax, stay with us here and go to another appointment ![]() ![]() sabby |

I have cancelled many dentist appointments, it usually takes me several cancellations before I actually turn up! But at least I get there in the end. Hope your assignment goes well. ![]()

Dentist's, Doctor's they're all the same, they know that I hate them and will probably end up calling and cancelling. In fact when I left my doctor last week (appointment was over a month late, had been without medication for over a month) he stopped me in the hall and said "Really, I need to see you next week".
And if you're sliding around on the road? Well that's a perfectly logical reason not to go out!

The weather turned out to be mostly rain. I don't mind the dentist but it's two crowns, $1,700 each and will take an hour and a half and I just was not in the mood on such a crummy day. I rarely cancel appointments but the older I get the more likely I am to accept my husband's assertion that my life and car are more important than getting somewhere or not. I use to go to work in crazy snow conditions and he'd get mad because I didn't get paid as much per day as it would have cost had I been in an accident :-)

I was having this very discussion with someone the other day. I don't recall who. When the kids were small, hubby worked in a mine and was gone for 14 hours out of the day. I got up, snowblowed the driveway, showered, got ready for work (including hairstyle and makeup), threw dinner in the slow cooker and filled the bread machine, and got the kids ready for school and day care. We lived in Northern Michigan at the time, and I had to carry a shovel in the trunk to shovel out snow banks from the snow plows on the main roads. I worked about 15 miles from where I lived, but I'd have to leave an hour early to make it to work on time, in the winter.
I look back now at the conditions that I drove through, DROVE THROUGH WITH MY KIDS, and wonder what was I thinking.

Yes, I was working in Alexandria, VA, just "down the street" when Air Florida, Flight 90 crashed, had just gone by there on my way home early from work!

Oh man, I use to hate to see the dentist. The first time I ever went to one was when I was tweleve and had to have a root canal. The guy was not exactly delicate. Finally, I broke down and saw one because I was twenty-two and my teeth where rotting out of my mouth, getting perhaps a blood infection (can spell the end), and I felt socially unacceptable for having rotting teeth. Just to give everyone a heads up, the most painful thing a dentist can do is give you a deep root cleaning. I know because I have had one. I use to see an alergist once a week for allergy shots. If I had a fear of needles, I don't anymore But, if the weather is bad I wouldn't have gone myself. If you are anxious about seeing a doctor or dentist you really need to let them know you are anxious, nervous, stressed out, and/or worried. If they do not understand then you need to see someone else.

Yes, my husband couldn't stand the deep root cleaning and just let all his teeth fall out and has dentures now but had a couple infections along the way and had to have his last 8+ pulled, etc. It wasn't quite the easier way he anticipated :-)
I've been going to the dentist since I was 5 religiously so that isn't hard for me, I actually enjoy making the dentist wince by pretending things don't hurt that do and I'm "fun" too and don't mind waiting, etc. so the dentists love when I come in because I'm a joy to work with. My new appointment (which I hope is going to work this time!) is for next Friday. I had a mixup and then had to postpone the next reschedule but now I'm pretty sure it's a go and I doubt the weather will get me this time (now watch, there will be a blizzard).
