Hi dr. my age now is 29 yrs old male … I played and slept with girls during the years from 1994 till 1997... Then I stopped because I afraid from AIDS …I check and my test is Negative after that …. I am a afraid from Aids … if I touch person have a small cute in his hand or see a red color in money (note) i think that is a blood from infected person and then i go and take a shower for 3 HOURS washing my body 10 times to insure there is no Unseen Virus in my hand and body …. I went to dr. he give me seroxat it works with me and I feel good but after a time this mendicant didn't effect on me and the he give me now …… …… and am using those mendicant for 3 months ..And there is no effect … every day I take a shower for 3 hours. Is this is a PHOBIA... and how can be a normal person?

I am going to assume that you know ythat our symptoms are those of OCD - or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder .

I think that you'll want to read more on OCD and consider seeing a therapist to talk about additional help beyond just meds. This doesn't mean you're "nuts" - its just means you need some help getting past this issue of worrying about AIDS so that you can begin to enjoy your life again.

If you need help with finding a therapist, etc., let us know. People here have lots of experience with that process.

Hi dr,

That negative test is a really good result for you.

As others have said, your symptoms sound like OCD, and there are good strategies for dealing with this. Maybe the shock of the aids test triggered a fear response, and this needs to settle down.

I've suffered OCD symptoms over the years, and it can be defeated.
