Do anybody use Seroquel as a sleep aid? I've used this and the only thing that Im not too happy of is being woken up being completly confused of whats happening in the world. It seems like if I have woken up in a whole new world.

Yes, I use seroquel as a sleep aid.
I am on a small dosage which just helps my thoughts simmer down enough at night for me to fall asleep.

Helga,
The doctor prescribed Seroquel for my daughter's bipolar disorder. It worked quite well, except at a higher level. At this higher level, it caused my daughter to be depressed. EJ |

I take a small dosage and as long as I have been on it I have no side effects.
I know the dosages for people can very so I don't know what would happen if I took a higher dosage. What dosage are you taking? I only take 25 to 50 mg each night.

I'm glad this thread was started because my pdoc put me on 50 mg of Seroquel at bedtime and I hadn't heard of anyone taking it for sleep. (Actually I'd never heard of it period!)
Sometimes it works...sometimes it doesn't at all. I've horrible nightmares sometimes with it. Anyone else have trouble with that? Also, taking 50 mg at night - anyone have an idea on how long it would take to go off of it?

My doctor gave me 25MG tablets... She was wanting me to take 1 after dinner and 4 at bedtime. I don't listen to what the doc tells me what to take... Thank god for that because I only took 3 and it knocked me out for the entire 24 hours! Which sucked because it felt like if i was in a lite coma!
I'm seriously thinking about taking it as needed... When I go into theses cycling patterns of my sleep where Im sleeping during day time and awake at nights, which is where im heading right now ![]() |

I was also prescribed 100 mg Seroquel for my Bi-Polar disorder to calm the mania and help with my insomnia. When I first started, I woke up feeling full-on drunk for about 3-4 hours (right down to the walking into walls!) After a few weeks, the side effects subsided and I'm able to wake without the "drunk factor" as my MD & I joke about. Although, my next med check is this Friday, and I'm not sleeping...Ambien doesn't work for me, so I feel a dosage increase coming on. It's not so bad though, the 100mg worked pretty well for almost a year, it's just seemed to have pooped out on me the past couple of months.

I have been taking seroquel specifically for sleep for over 10 months now. I started on 25 mg before bed but have slowly moved up to 400 mg. For the longest time, I had bad headaches when I woke up in the morning but those went away. 90% of the time it works, but every now and then it just doesn't. I often dream now where as before I took it, I barely ever had a dream. The only complaint i have is that sometimes the dose i take is not enough and sometimes it's too much. I never know how much to take. Does anyone else have that trouble with the drug?

Yeah, I take 400mg for sleep (raised recently), and it knocks me out in about 1 1/2 hours. I don't get any side effects, it works very well.

Yeah, i used to take Seroquel for a mood stabilazer but also a relaxing med and to get me to bed if anything. Recently ive taken Zyprexa to help me sleep because it literally knocks me out within 5 minutes. lol. My sleep has been better now but recently now ive couldnt get to sleep at all and always end up going to bed after 1am when i have school early in the morning and have to get up around 6:15am. So yeah, but thats because im terrified of the dark and i get severely paranoid.
Good luck with your sleeping habits and such!!! Hope all is well!!!! :] deb

Glad you mentioned the "drunk" feeling after taking Seroquel at night. I began with 25 mg which didn't put me sleep. pdoc upped dosage to 50 mg, which put me to sleep but I had horrible nightmares so I didn't like taking it. At my most recent pdoc visit, I told him about the nightmares and he said "then take three" - this would now be 75 mg.
I asked how in the world that something that was giving me horrible nightmares would be better if I took more of it. He said (something to the effect) that we all dream but in a deep sleep don't usually remember them during the dreams. The fact that I get terrified IN a dream shows I'm not in a deep enough sleep pattern. Ok, makes some sense. Since I've been on the 75 mg - I have not had nightmares. But I HAVE been feeling very groggy, slightly naseous and unsteady on my feet. (I'm also taking 2 mg Ativan - one upon rising and one 4 hours later so it might be contributing to this.) Several co-workers today asked me if I was ok....not sure if it was because I looked unsteady on my feet, or if my eyes looked funny, etc. I sure didn't really feel ok, but not sick either. Just blah. Oh, and my Depakote got raised from 800 mg to 1200. Any and all continued comments greatly appreciated!
