i spent the day before yesterday in my closet. i really scared my hubby i think. he convinced me to come out to go to bed, but i have been really fighting the urge to go sit back in there since then. the good news is i finally have a pdoc appointment early in july. they are going to do a med evaluation. i hate meds, take xanax just enough to cope, but it is taking more lately to work. i don't want to take something that makes me numb. was on lexapro for a while and the ONLY thing i felt then was the anxiety. it did slow down the actual panic attacks, but i was more anxious the rest ofthe time. hopefully i will be able to get a T without having to sit in the waitng room for hours after i see their pdoc. they don't normally make appointments apparently. does anybody else ever sit in a closet? is that really wierd? the worst of it is i don't even know why i want to sit in there.

maybe you just want to disossiate with everything and everybody? If i had a closet big enough i would probably go there every now and again just for some peace .... it doesn't sound wierd if you have something traumatic going on, i hope you feel better soon, and you shouldn't have to sit for hours in a waiting room, i can't do that either, i have to stand in the corridor a lot of the time, i hate being so close to so many peeps in such a small area, i'm better in the hospital where it is more roomy, but still hate it.

I wish i had a closet big enough to hide in, like in the american movies .... i'd never fit in mine my closet hugs, Jinny xoxoxoxoxo

keep us posted hon.....

I have not been in my closet in some time, but I have hung out there in the past. I started doing it when I was a kid. Doing it as an adult makes me feel a little strange. But, it makes me feel safe to be walled off from the world--like nothing can get to me. It cuts down on the stimulation--sometimes the world is just too much and being in the closet keeps it all at bay. So, don't think you are the only one who has sat in a closet. If it helps you to be in there, then maybe it is not such a bad idea. True, you don't want to be in there so much it interferes with your life, but maybe to take a short break from the world until you learn some better coping methds. hang in there...

my closet my closet

Awhile back I did end up in the closet when I was really scared and overwhelmed. Needing to cut down on over stimulation was a big part of it.

Now if I had that urge I might try wrapping up in a blanket first, maybe using ear plugs if noise was getting to me, and I'd use some sort of fun distraction - in my case probably an involving book.

Good luck with it all.

thank you all for the replies, glad i am not the only one. i guess it feels safe in there, weird thing is i am also claustrophobic so i have to leave the door cracked so i can see out. i am not sure what drives me in there most of the time, but hubby gets really freaked out when i do it and wants to know why i am in there, hard to explain to him when i don't know myself my closet

Before my kids came home last year, I used to sleep in the closet. My husband would get so mad because he didn't understand. It was where I needed to be then, wasn't hurting anyone.

I wish you luck with your Pdoc appt next month. Hope they can help you with the right medications.

Good luck,

Dee

you know lost, some of us sit in other places too... i might sit in my bathroom to escape.

i've heard lots of others do that too.

It's all the same thing really, just copping a squat in a safe place, to think or not to think, whatever we need to do.

peace and love,
nightbird
