This weekend. I had a little meltdown. The only thing that I could do to sooth myeslf was to sleep in my closet...which was a walk-in luckily. I've always loved being in the closet or under the bed as a kid. I think its sorta strange. Anyone else do/did that.

never had closets large enough to fully comfortably sleep in but yes have spent time hiding in closets as it has felt like the safest thing to do at the time.

If it helped you to feel safe then I applaud you for taking care of yourself through a meltdown.

So what if it is strange?! Until you have more coping mechanisms in place and more support in place you need to use what you know and for you this was something familiar and comfortable to turn to. Strange or not. Maybe it is only strange to ppl who aren't survivors of abuse (physical, emotional, etc)?

When I'm feeling vulnerable, I'll sleep on the couch so I have something to snuggle into and feel protected. So sleeping in a small-ish room doesn't seem strange at all. Maybe it has something to do with feeling bigger in relation to our surroundings. Slept in my closet

i sleep on my sofa quite often because the cats have to snuggle closer and it's good to feel a warm body next to me....fayeroe sleeps with her head on my legs. i don't think it's unusual to feel safer and more Slept in my closet comfy in a small space....i slept on my bathroom floor about two years ago because the room felt safer than the rest of my house did...we're all okay and just getting better!!!

I slept on my bathroom floor once, but it had nothing to do with feeling comfy. Slept in my closet

When I was a kid, I'd ask my mom to roll me up in my sheets and blankets like a mummy (but not my face). She always did, and never made me feel weird about it. Now I'll do something similar where I'll kick the blankets up with my feet so I can tuck them under me and then roll side to side so I'm all tucked in snuggly. I'll stay that way until I get too warm.

I've slept on the couch many times and on the living room floor once. Not sure what it's about, but the closet thing doesn't seem wierd. I sit in the closet and think sometimes cause during the day it's the only place I can find pitch black.

Thanks all. I think that its amazing how just life itself can make you feel unsafe. Its wierd. Closets are safe to me. The darkness, the hiddeness, protection.. I dunno what it is.

Oh yes yes yes. My closet was my safe place when I was a kid. Doesn't quite have the same effect in my room now where I am living - but yeah, I understand about closets and I haven't met anyone before who got that Slept in my closet
Wow.

For me it is dark
And closed in.
I don't feel shut in
But I feel like everything else is shut out
And I am safe.

Oh sure, me too.. but for different reasons... during Hurricane Andrew, only the closets stayed intact (the one in a corner of the house) and my new puppy (he's 12 1/2 now) and I hid from the storm... (which was a trigger as I was injured during a thunderstorm) We often (dog and I) go into the closet when a new storm comes.

I used to hide & go to sleep in my closet, under the bed, in the attic, and etc.. Blankets still somehow magically protect and make me or the world disappear the instant I'm covered. Being in darkness, you are hidden, and any one attempting to invade your space is revealed by the light.
