As I've mentioned, I only work part time for right now, so I always have hours during the day to kill. It is especially a problem on Thursdays and Fridays when I do not have to go to work at all. I have sort of made it a rule to myself to leave the house at least once on either day, but I never know what to do with myself. Gas prices are also becoming a problem. There is also never anyone for me to go out with during the day, since everyone else is at work.

Anyway, I was just wondering what others of you think would be a good thing to do to get out of the house for awhile. Believe me, if I can't think of anywhere to go, I stay in the house, which is not good. I also know I can't just keep doing random shopping trips because I'm bored. So I am open to any ideas. I just hate sitting in the house all the time, and I feel like getting employed full time is not going to happen anytime soon.

Have you tried going to the library? Do you have a local park that you enjoy being at?

Yeah, I've gone to the library a few times. I don't hate going, but I just feel like it's difficult to get interested in books. I always check out what cds they have though because I love music. The last book for pleasure I tried reading, I didn't even get past chapter 3. Maybe it was just boring, but I don't like to read books too much because I get anxious doing so. Maybe I just haven't found the right book yet.

I also can't stand reading, it puts me to sleep. have you tried going for a walk or to the gym. Or getting a dog so you have a reason to walk, that's one of the reasons I wanted a dog. Or biking. Or gardening.

I like the library idea, too. I'm surprised that somebody mentioned it, since I was going to bring it up.
I've always found it difficult to really get into a long book. I have never read, and will never read, 'War and Peace.'
But there are tons of books that feature short stories-usually 10 to 30 pages of either fiction or nonfiction. It makes for a somewhat easy and fast read.
My library is also in a great park, so that would be my second suggestion.
My best to you.

Thanks for the ideas everyone! We shall see tomorrow if I still feel bored as easily. There is no way I am sitting in the house for another day not accomplishing anything.

Have you tried going to Borders or to the park. If you go to Borders you can read magazines, have a cup of coffee, listen to music. These are all things that people tell me to do to get out of the house....most of the time I do not,,,..but when I am climbing the walls I go to the park and sit and look at the people jogging, walking, boating, etc...

Sometimes if it is not too hot, I walk the trail myself...

Was a time when I had great trouble getting out of the house.

You could start off with just going for short walks to start off with, maybe take a sketch pad or note book with you, find a bench and sit for a bit. You don't have to spend any money, just getting out in the fresh air can really help.

Some great advice for you mak62184...and BTW welcome to PC...

The counsel you've received has been good,,,and your so right,,isolation is the breeder of pain. When were stuck in our own heads,,we create whatever drama is necessary for suffering...Anytime I begin to seek "aloneness" I know some switch has been flicked,,,and it ain't for light...

Have you looked at your local newspaper in the "volunteer" column? There are so many organizations that are looking for help and giving a few hours a week satisfies a couple issues...Their needs,,,and yours...

Lenny

Also you will meet new people,,create new networks and put yourself out there for whatever may be in the plan for you...

I would try a bike ride, i can seem to get more motivated bike riding than walking. Even if its around the block, its something. I would also suggest fishing, or rollerskating
