How does one go about getting meds when you can't afford them (temporarily) and doctors have stopped giving out samples?

Yes, I know about PPARX. They want tax returns, in most cases, and I make too much to qualify (which is not to say I make a lot!). I am on short-term disability and having trouble with the bank, and right now I am so overdrawn (thanks to a bank error they won't fix) it's not even funny.

Ideas?

Have you tried contacting the drug companies themselves and asking for help directly from them?

have you tried talking to catholic services or salvation army, or red cross or some other private social service type people? often they can help on a short term emergency basis.

Zoloft and Depakote. If you can find a drug company that doesn't require income verification or an income of 17K or less, let me know.

Have you priced the generics? Both Zoloft (sertraline) and Depakote (valproic acid) are available at significant savings. Sertraline is only $15-30/month depending on dosage, valproic acid is about twice that.

There was also a thread on here about a prescription card that you can get for free that offers discounted meds.

I hope you find a solution.

Yes, ordinarily my Zoloft is $10 generic and my Depakote is $33 (I pay 20% of the total). The issue right now is that I have absolutely no cash, none, nada, zip. I couldn't even come up with $10 in pennies. So it doesn't really matter what they cost!
