After talking with some friend I realized that, although I have been with obsessive problems for 10 yrs. now, I was diagnosed with OCD only a few months ago!! Where was I all this years? I mean, the anxiety medication I have been taking has kept me in a semi-asleep state which doesn't allow me to respond adequately in the "real world". Yes it helps with the anxiety but also keeps me in this state where a year can pass so quickly, and suddenly there have passed 10 of them! I mean, I have been treated for anxiety and depression but it is until recently that a more accurate diagnose was made for me. This diagnose not only puts a name on my disease, but also helps me direct all of my efforts in a clear direction in order to heal faster. From this view I can clearly see that my previous doctor was just treating my symptoms but wasn't doing anything to heal me. That is a shame! |

The thing is, you can't really have OCD without the anxiety. The reason for the checking etc is usually down to the anxiety behind it. So it isn't really a new diagnosis for you. Incidently many doctors have OCD tendencies, the worry of keeping their hands clean between patients. It only needs treatment if it is causing a problem for you and disrupting your life.
If the anxiety and depression are treated then the OCD should get better. Hope you have a therapist to help you. ![]()

I'm glad you finally got an accurate diagnosis. I know how you feel about lost time. I feel like I've had so much time taken from me by bipolar and anxiety and to top it all off I swear someone made all the clocks run faster.

It's greatly disrupting my life!!
I even had to be hospitalized for the lack of control over my compulsions. I've been "out of the air" for almost a year now, but today I'm a lot better than a year ago. Still I had to ask for a time out from my studies and I will not come back to them at least until Jan-2009. I'm not seeing a therapist, just my psychiatrist who's doing psychotherapy with me. |

Hello,
I understand your frustration. It is difficult to try to understand that you have gone misdiagnosed for so long and suffered for so long. I also understand that you are afraid that you won't really get to the bottom of your illness and heal and experience another ten years of purely trying to survive... Sleeping is what I do to, it is not good for either of us... I think for me I am checking out of life...what about for you are you doing the same? Please find a therapist who can help you with these issues because to me it sounds like your Pdoc isn't helping as much as they should.... TJ ![]()
