How do I learn to accept the fact that I have these obsessive thoughts? Is it possible just to quit having these thoughts and performing compulsions? I know it won't be easy, but is it possible? I want it to lessen to the point where it doesn't drive me crazy or have me questioning things.

I thing it depends on what your obsessing over. I've only realised that my thoughts were obsessive recently really, I was born this way so I thought it was normal. Anyways, I think a person can manage thoughts to the point of tolerance, but I'm not sure if you can eradicate them completely...but that's just from my expirience, I've never been overly agressive in my effort to mange my obsessions with maybe two thoughts as exceptions because the other ones have yet to really bother me.

As for compulsions, it really is hard work in order to break the cycle. If you are unaware that you're doing them at the time they happen, then you have to make even more effort to both notice and stop the behavior. It's really tough at first, but I think that it eventualy pays off.

I have suspected lately that my obsessive thoughts are a defense, an avoidance. Of what, it depends and it takes some work to quiet the mind to see what's there when i can get the obsessive thought(s) to quiet down.

I don't know if this will help or not.....but it might. Our minds think thousands of thoughts every single day....some thoughts make sense and are valid....some thoughts are completely random or make no sense and we have the choice to give them validity or not. We can choose what thoughts we wish to hang on to and relate to, and we can choose which thoughts we don't wish to give creedence to. Of course this is not going to stop them. Not really sure how to do that.

Sorry I can't be of more help with this.
